In the last 2 months or so, I have developed a new hobby, collecting money boxes from the various financial institutions which are and used to be in Australia, my collection is only small so far, here it is, hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
1.St.George Bank dragon and Commmonwealth Bank Dollarmite figures,(St. George has had the dragons for many, many years as it is it's emblem, the Dollarmite account was a children's account, the Commonwealth offered for a while.

2. N.S.W Building Society/Advance Bank piggy banks and C.B.C. Bank koala in tree.
C.B.C. Bank is defucnt it was known as the Commercial Banking Corporation, The N.S.W Building Society demutualised in 1985 to become Advance Bank, it is now part of St. George, which is now part of Westpac.

World Globe and Bunyip

The world globe was from to the State Bank of Victoria now defunct and Mr. Bunyip was the C.B.A.Bank, aka the Commercial Bank of Australia.I think the State Bank of Victoria was gobbled up by the Commonwealth Bank after it collapse in the 1990's

A mixed bunch here

Here we have a mixed bunch of boxes
in front is a metal box from the C.B.A.(this is from the 1960's I believe.)
The little house is from the now defucnt State Building Society of N.S.W.(Sniff, sniff, my beloved institution for many years,I hate St. George for taking over them, they were the best.)
Beeper is in the background again.
The castle shaped box is from the Newcastle Permanent Building Society, still going strong today.

Another mixed crew

Here is another mixed crew of boxes.
Both the front money boxes are from the A.N.Z. Bank, the one with the little koala is from 1984, designed for the Los Angeles Olympics and the green happy smiley face is from the 1960's like the C.B.A. metal box in the otehr photo.
At the rear is the still fairly comon building shaped metal tin from the Comonwealth Bank, many years ago, like when I was at school./ the Commonwelath Bnak would send officers to the schools with these boxes and a small grey passbook for the kids to open an account and save their loose change.

Blinky Bill

And last one so far, here is a metal cylinder shaped box from the C.B.C. Bank with a koala called Blinky Bill on it and on the rear of the tin you can read all about the koala bear.
Cheers folks.
Steve.

Steve,

I worked for ANZ for years and I know that mum used to have money boxes (in boxes!) tucked away...I'll see what I can find if you'ld like, though I can't promise anything

Many thanks Ron

Many thanks for your kind offer Ron,actually have you ever considered selling some on ebay, they do seem to be quite popular, you may just be sitting on a goldmine and you don't know it.
Cheers.
Steve.

There were only a few....rather than 'boxes', just they were in their original 'box' if that makes sense...

...and to be perfectly honest, if mum still has them, I would rather they go to someone for free....

twin, you just brought back a lost memory of mine concerning this collection of yours, which by the way is very cool. We have a bank here that back in the early 1970's had a promotion for kids. They sold you a solid steel money bank that only they, the bank could open. it could only be opened when it was become full. It actually had a clicker type counter to let the kid know how much his bank contained at any given time.I remember it being round, about half the size of a pie pan.
