Hey y'all, so I acquired this kenmore 80 series dd washer, and I didn't like the crappy triple action agi in her, so I swapped it out with a KitchenAid turquoise agitator, the big boy, as this kenmore is a 3 speed, I keep the setting on slow agitation, and it's just like having a KitchenAid superba washer.
Here are some pics of the kitchenmore.

these now come in all white....the best thing is that chrome ring.....

try it a few times on high agitation, even if only water only, talk about tidal waves of water....

this puppy will wash a large load effectively.....how high is your top water level?....I raised mine

Remember not to use high speed agitation with that agitator, it will burnout the motor and cause tranny failure because of extra stress!
I should know, I've done this myself....
Normal/casual speed gives the same performance like a belt drive agitator with the K.A. agitator!

I bought this washer for my Mother in 1999, at the Sears Outlet store. It had a small dent in the side. Also got a new, matching, electric 29" dryer.

They lasted her until 2010 when she innocently replaced with a new MOL Whirlpool top loader set. 2 gallons for the rinse, a water valve and sensor that was constantly causing water hammer in the pipes (on-off, on-off-on).

The agitator looks out of place. You would get very good turn over with the original as well.

The Kitchenmore

Is a great little machine indeed and with this bigger agitator it really turns the load over, even on ex slow speed, I have tried it on fast speed with only water, and as yogi said, a freakin tidal wave, I was like yay!! Lol, sorry had a child moment. I raised the level in mine as well. Video comming soon

These were nice machines. I never liked DD that much but they were good performers none the less. Sears did their homework on these machines however, low speed on a DD is equivalent in roughness to normal on most other machines. I guess one can say these had a real Heavy-duty cycle. The extra slow intermittent was another good idea on the side of Sears. ATC was a good feature to only present on Whirlpool machines much higher than this at the time. So you did get your monies worth when buying these.

On a side of caution, Im not sure what was different in the transmissions of DD washers but as stated above I have heard of these agitators wearing out transmissions on larger loads. Just another heads up. BTW, why was it these agitators were ok in Kitchen Aids and not other DDs?

I have use both speeds......but mainly high for all loads.....and never had an issue, but have heard others with failures because of the stress factor...

the only other thing I added was the heavy duty coupler as well.......mine is a 95, bought new, and to think of it, I only had to replace it once so far....

don't worry about being a kid....you only live once, we all can relate, just glad it worked out for you, and your gettting full enjoyment out of it...looking forward to the video

BTW, why was it these agitators were ok in Kitchen Aids and not other DDs?
KitchenAid used three-speed motors, and the medium motor speed (equivalent to low on a 2-speeder) was run for high agitation ... thus not as much strain on the mechanism as would be the case if high motor speed was run. KA also used a slightly more robust motor.

a Kitchen Aid exclusive.......

suprised Kenmore didn't claim this one for their own......they always seemed to do one up over Whirlpool....

you would have expected to see this in at least the LadyK or Limited versions...

Kenmore has always had very good cycle combinations along with some clever agitator modifications. I think Sears had some really good consumer appliance experts and designers on board when writing the specs for the Kenmores. There were times when I thought the Kenmore line looked and was set up better than the Whirlpool badged machines.

And that's why I love

My kenmore machines, growing up my whole family had kenmore washers, and indeed their set up was far superior to whirlpool, they just seemed so plain and featureless, even their TOL models, and for this reason I chose to put a kitchenaid agitator in this kenmore I knew she could handle it, so now I have a DD Machine that cleans as gentle as a beloved belt drive. I'm trying to upload a video, but imma have to compress it to fit.

Curious to know

Based on the model number can anyone tell me what year this machine is? Model #110.22894100.
Thanks

What's the difference between the agitator that was taken out and the one you put in? What makes the agitator triple-action? I'm only use to seeing the dual action units.

Also, in #3, what's the purpose of having the agitator sitting there with fabric softener in it or am I seeing things?

I would love to see a video of the high speed agitation with the turquoise agitator and full load of clothes. Yogitunes if you get a chance, would you please make one and post it?
