agitator chart

Here is a nice reference to see what should be in your machine as far as an agitator.

I guess Jetcone decided to go for the '58 agitator in his. If only these were still available.

Then I guess the tub could be original... Maybe Robert can tell us more about it!

Have a look at the tub of this 1960 Multimatic in this old thread, seems to be very similar too, this washer is also pictured in front of a blue Buick. This one looks like a '62 Invicta.

Beautiful find Phil

And a real neat designation on the WIC-57 there! That makes them extra special! The '57 was an odd year and as the cabinet was lowered so the tub was cut low for that year. I don't know if they carried that tub over in later years or not, Robert knows better about this than I do. But you could very well have a factory 1957 tub with Canadian porcelain, or it could have been a replacement tub manufactured in the 60's and installed but it would have to be for that particular machine as the tub would hit the cabinet if it wasn't.

Odd though that the jetcone agitator is hitting the lid! Sometimes they put rubber spacers under the cones and maybe yours was not installed correctly?

Nice vanilla color~~ we should get ours together for a wash in!
Yes Patrick I still have my white '57, it came off the Farm in Aberdeen, Robert found it for me and I am keeping it for good. Just rebuilt the timer in it.

Yes John I AM hoarding that charcoal set!!------KERRRSLAPPP!

OMG - congrats!!

The U.S. porcelain was more gray in 57 but Jon's right, this could have been a Canadian made version of the machine so it may have been a different color. You have the machine, that's the important part, the rest will come.
I'm glad it's working, that's a huge bonus! Congratulations on a great set and rare piece of history.

Jon,

I removed the agitator, removed the water bellow to see if there was anything like rubber spacers and there were none, there was not even a large lower cone support washer... And the agitator goes close to the bottom of the tub so I can't see how it could go any lower... I look under the cabinet and at the tub support, everything looks ok there too.

I guess I found what's the problem:

Greg, the porcelain inside my dryer (which is also a Canadian model - DIC-57) is gray too and that's what I expected to see in the washer. Frigidaire often used different porcelain colors on Canadian models (usually black instead of gray or blue)... The picture of Robert's WI-57 shows a blueish tub too.

Another video of the washer spinning. I had it a bit overloaded with towels but I was surprised to see the good rollover, even with the jet cone agitator.

Interesting thread

Another difference. Phil, you said yours has the alternating hot/cold valve for warm. Ours had the mixing valve. We only had that, the alternator, on the Pulsamatics.

Really?

Here's a shot of the valve... I have recently seen very odd stuff that came from the Canadian Frigidaire factory. They quit making Rollermatic washers and matching dryers in 1970 here and they still used some parts from the mid-sixties models but with updated looks of the "N" line washers.

Its important not to compare the colors because the Canadian versions of the machines had different wash tub colors. While this tub could have been replaced, the tub in this '57 is clearly the correct version, just in a slightly different color.

Here is what I was looking for - Robert's '57 tub and agitator. Geez, talk about factory fresh. It actually has a supple look to it! It actually has a supple look to it!
That's cause I found a brand new set of gray rings for the '56 and '57 models about 15 years ago, along with a brand new cap, pulsator and detergent column. They are still totally supple today.

Show us the Insides of your Frigidaire, check out the color of Eddy's rollermatic tub in post 151757...

Again - congrats Phil on such a fantastic find! Who would have thought these would have been kept together all of these years.

To add to the tub color discussion - I also agree that the tub is more than likely original to the machine. However, published in the April 1957 Tech Talk, there is a bulletin discussing the change from the US grey tub to the blue tub - so in theory either tub color is correct for a state-side '57.

Fantastic information Ben! And I also just saw your email.

Can you tell me what kind of valves I have on my washer and if they're the original ones?

And they were kept by the same owner but not together. The Filtrator dryer was now matched to a Frigidaire Gallery front loader and the washer was in storage.

Excure the confusion. Thanks!

My Gram's 55 Pulsamatic achieved warm water by alternating hot and cold. It was hardly a thermostatic valve. Our Tower Unimatic made warm water by mixing hot and cold at the same time. I should say that ours was a Custom Deluxe. Your Custom Imperial has a thermostat to control precise water temperature. Have I got it right? How cool! There was a time when you got what you paid for and your money's worth. The Frigidaire Custom Imperial in 1957 was just such a time.

The newest version of Kitchen Aid which wears a Maytag badge has this same thermostatic hot/cold, hot/ cold flow. My mom has one and it reminds me of my Gram's Pulsamatic, so much fun to hear it and so soothing. I could sit and listen for hours--a waterfall lullaby.
