I've recently found that using the Delicate cycle is great for a shorter wash!

The regular incarnation of delicate washes at the same temp as the Normal cycle and the Eco version washes at a warmer temp than the Normal Eco cycle.

BUT. What doesn't the User Guide tell you about this cycle (and others, too?)?

Try and guess what I'm about to tell you about this cycle.

Does it have to do with Rinses, Temperature, Pressure or some other detail? Or maybe about the Self-destruct feature which requires the excessive use of Eco cycles?

Lets see if the folks on AW.org can figure it out. There MIGHT (won't) be a prize for the winner... Maybe you could guess that too...

Not quite, but its an issue related.

I'll give you a hint: It uses Residual Heat Drying, so it has something to do with what happens beforehand

Delicate has lower spray pressure.  The SmartDrive motor runs at slightly higher or lower RPM per the selected cycle to adjust the spray pressure accordingly.  Drain (the pump/motor reverses direction for recirculate or drain) is the highest RPM.

Alright...

I was using Delicate Eco this morning to wash my breakfast dish with lovely amounts of egg stains, the frying pan, some cutlery and other "bits 'n' bobs." Whilst the user guide suggests there are "only" two rinses, I caught my DD running 2 very short rinses followed by the heated "Rinse-Aid" cycle.

It seems either my DD knows it has a hot connection, and is trying to find hot water (didn't get it, cloudy weather yesterday and I only just filled the Solar hot water system with "heating fluid" (aka water) }or, the designers included a secret rinse cycle somewhere in there to annoy me... Hmmm.

I wonder what other cycles feature 3 rinses. My "spidey sensors" suggest there is a hidden rinse in the Heavy/Eco cycle and maybe in a "normal/eco" cycle, but I'll have to wait around and see.

But in any case, the dishes came out clean, despite the suggestion by F&P that the "Delicate Eco or any Eco cycle should not be used for heavy soiled or greasy dishes." My Circulon frying pan w/ protein stains, my greasy, protein stained plate, cutlery, stained coffee mug, soup ladle, wooden spoon and lip-balm stained cups all came clean...

I'll just ignore that odd little error on the DD's behalf, and move on with my life

Feel free to suggest what F&P are doing to me!

So now, I've found that I can do two detergent washes... Which I will suggest to other members of the household from now on. I did that this morning after a slightly unsuccessful use of Delicate - that, or I tried to make the DD eat too much left over food (Satay Chicken sauce, 5-6 chunks of tuna, oatmeal + apple puree sauce + rice milk and other stuff...)

User Guide I have for DD24 & DD60 series (Phase 7) indicates 3 rinses on Delicate, whether Eco or non-Eco.

The slight difference on some cycles between Designer (prefinished) and Integrated (custom-panel) models is curious.

These sequences are different than my DD603.

Thanks for that.

It should be noted however, that my DishDrawer is the "Phase 6." (DD60DCX6, the cycle times shown are for the DD60DCX7, the next revision from my model). My cycle times are shorter than all of the ones shown here

My Heavy is 124mins, Eco is 120. Normal is 114, eco is 130. Fast is 49mins, Eco is 33mins. Delicate, 92mins, Eco 8? mins. Rinse is 11 minutes (as always).

My guide (and the one that was shown by F&P at the time we purchased our DD) suggested that all cycles only rinse twice. But the Delicate Rinses 3 times, and possibly the Heavy cycle too.

Hmmm....

That still doesn't show what we should have.

Ours shouldn't have a prewash at all for the Heavy cycle, and the cycle times are still incorrect for our dishwasher - the heavy and Heavy eco cycles are too long (Heavy says 130mins, but its 124 and the eco iteration is 120)

The dishwasher is also using more water than the government testing indicates: The Normal Eco cycle should be using just 6.7L of water, as indicated by the standards on our dishwasher.

Perhaps this is from an earlier Ph6 model...

What would be great for me though is if I could add a prewash and extra rinse to all the cycles, so I could get rinse-wash-rinse-rinse-rinse-dry for all the cycles (+ an extra rinse for the Heavy cycle), then run them all (excepting Delicate) on the highest pressure. Then, we could get away with using the "Fast" cycle for everything, and pretend that we had an old dishwasher (lol!)

Here's a Phase 6 chart for the European market.

Initial cycle times are based on a stated, expected input water temp.  As you know, cycle time is extended as needed to reach the target temps.

Note the behavior for Normal Eco described on this chart. Begins in the Prewash period, fills with 2.5l, washes for 12 mins or to 42°C, then moves to Main Wash without draining, fills 12 seconds additional and washes for 42 mins or to 54°C.

Interesting that on Ph7 (and presumably other) models that don't run a distinct prewash, the user guide doesn't show that the prewash cup is to be filled with detergent, but neither does it state that the cup must not be filled.

Its actually very interesting to see this. But alas, still incorrect I'm guessing this must be for a different layout to the model I have (DS Wide, Integrated or something?) But times for this are a lot closer to what I have

I believe the Australian cycle progression page you showed was with an incoming temperature water of around 20º, not 25º. Our manual says the intake water is 25ª and GB was 15-20ª

My point is that there are any number of software/cycle configurations, even on units within the same phase/series but aimed at different marketing regions.  Also is not unusual that F&P issues revisions without changing the model/series directly.  Engineering revisions are sometimes stated as beginning at a specific production serial number.

My DD603 is a Phase 3.  I think the 603 series was produced longer than any other thus far.  There was also a Phase 3.5 revision in the 603 series (added on-board water softener module).  None of the 4+ downloaded user guides I have for 603 match the cycle configurations stated in the printed material included with my machine.

Nope! My user guide does not match what the DishDrawer is doing in the Delicate cycle.

Since I am at home today, I was "around" when the machine was being used (we now use the Delicate cycle for our everyday dishes, as it takes less time, around the same time our old 2007 Dishlex did to perform a Regular 65º cycle).

I am CERTAIN that the machine is performing an extra rinse when the guide would otherwise not suggest it. Perhaps there was some sort of software revision between when the user guide was printed and when my DD was manufactured. But I was there during the 1st rinse (found the DD halfway thru 1st). It had removed the detergent from the prewash cup, and there were fresh suds beginning to form from the residual heat. The DD then drained around 1 minute later, filled again for the 2nd rinse (display didn't change from the "Washing" to "Rinsing." The "Rinsing" signal on the display only appears when the DD has entered Final Rinse).

But I am certainly not concerned. I am happy that my dishes are getting an extra rinse (or detergent wash) before the real rinsing begins. I think it would help remove any soils that might not have come thru with the other cycles. I still found a bit of rice that didn't want to move off an object till I did after I interupted the DD during the 2nd rinse. I just flicked it off into the water, and hopefully the drain filter took care of it afterwards...
