More shocking news out of the soap world. NBC has cancelled low rated Passions after 8 years.
They should have kept on Another World, the show it replaced. I still miss that show after all these years.

Never did see Passions, but used to watch Another World with my mom and grandma. They would do As the World Turns on CBS, but then switch to NBC for Days of our Lives, The Doctors (remember that one?) and then Another World. Oh, and the Young and the Restless which was on at 11 in the morning I think, at least in Minnesota.

In more recent years I continued as a fan of As the World Turns, and also like All My Children and Bold and Beautiful. As the World Turns got to a point where they just kept repackaging the same theme ad naseum and I burned out on it.

I TIVO Days of Our Lives,Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless. Been watching Days since I was 10 with my grandmother. It was a daily ritual of The Doctors,Texas,Days of Our Lives and Another World.

I used to watch NBC...Days Of Our Lives, Another World, and Santa Barbara....great line up....
I really miss Another World.

Why Passions Was Killed

The truth is, "Passions" would have probably stayed on the NBC schedule for a while longer, but the network found a cheaper alternative for its affiliates--a FOURTH hour of "Today"! To make way for hour number four of Matt, Meredith, Ann and Al (or whoever), something had to give--and given NBC's historically low daytime ratings with only TWO soaps, the weaker one ("Passions") had to go while the stronger entry ("Days Of Our Lives") survives. And since "Today" is cheaper to produce than an hour-long soap, the writing was on the wall. This, my friends, counts as progress in television today.

Well I am really gonna show my age here. I watch Y&R just about the time it came out. There were 3 characters that stuck in my mind and the last one I don't remember his character name. First was Leslie and the guy she had a heartthrob for, I thik they eventually married. His name was Tom, HOT. The last character, all I remember was he had an extremely nice low voice and chest fur that wouldn't quit. His real name, first name was Beau. I was so taken by this guy, that when my parents brought home a spits (last year of HS or 1st year of college), I named the dog Beau. Days of our LIves, well Bill & Mickey Horton really got me going, especially the bigger guy Mickey. I was interested in The Doctors, sometime in college, just about the time Gil Gerard & Kelsey Grammer were on there. could it have gotten any better???!!! And Another World, well there was the character Ada and her burley, beefy husband who was the sherrif or police officer. whoo hoo DADDY! And finally there was Rachel and Steve. That's the extent of my soaps viewing all my life.

As soaps go......

I always thought Passions was a little wacky and didn't watch too much ( was opposite General Hospital ) although i have a co worker who never missed an episode! If NBC can cancel Another World, they can cancel anything! I have to say that i will miss those Fitzgerald-Lopez boys for sure!!! And who could not love Juliet Mills? I think there was a orangutang in a nurses uniform?

Speaking of wacky soaps, who remembers Dark Shadows?

Juliet Mills? Oh how fun! I didn't realize she was working. I'll have to look her up on IMDB. What was that sitcom she did years ago?

Mike S: This, my friend, is why my entire viewing repertoire consists of the local news, Nightline if the subject is/are of interest, and Saturday Night Live. Oh, and I watch late night Oprah on Sunday night, since that's on instead of Nightline. Rarely much else except movies/Netflix. If I didn't need the cable for the computer, I wouldn't even bother with it.

Scott

Juliet was on Nanny and the Professor. On Passions she played a witch named Tabitha. There were lots of nods to Bewitched.
