Dark Shadows

Was about vampires, One in particular Barnabas Collins. I too vaguely remember it. I remember it scared me. I would rather watch The Edge Of Night.

Well, Since P&G makes or Produces all the afternoon soaps, maybe is just like Tide and downy and countless other products that they have "re-done", and not NBC that canceled it but P&G and they need another "new" version of the "soap"--lol

NBC has had the lowest rating share overall for sometime now. Except maybe when "Will & Grace" was running. It is kinda funny how the networks are constantly re-inventing the wheel. Don't mind if they come up with a new soap for the afternoon. I use to watch "another world" and "Days of our lives" with my sister in junior high--she got me hooked. Later became a "Y&R" fan and have remained there. Would mind a new soap with some real hot, hunk men in it and not these smooth boyish looking guys that they have now.

P&G's Soap Output

Actually, RE, Proctor & Gamble now produces just two daytime dramas--"As The World Turns" and "Guiding Light." ABC/Disney produces all of its soaps; "Days Of Our Lives," "Young & The Restless" and "Bold & The Beautiful" are produced by outside companies; and I believe NBC produces "Passions."
While NBC has had its ups and downs in prime time over the past three decades, its daytime schedule has traditionally been the lowest-rated of the Big Three networks since the late 1970's. Except for "Days," NBC has not had a daytime show among the top five--which these days usually includes "Restless," "All My Children" and "The Price Is Right." There are reports NBC may offer a stripped-down version of "Passions" to either cable or the Internet; whether that works out remains to be seen.

My cousin was a cameraman on the Young & the Restless for years, and now he is on The Bold & The Beautiful. We used to watch the Young & the Restless every Friday back in the 70's, to see his name on the credit (yes, that was geeky. We didn't have much excitement in our lives ;-) That was when Mrs. Chancellor & Jill Foster were first hating on each other. Who can forget the Monitortop refrigerator in the Foster's kitchen, or the time Jill was found with a shovel on the grounds of Stately Chancellor Manor, looking to dig up Philip?

The only other soap I am familiar with is As the World Turns. I sometimes still catch it. It's interesting to see how Lisa has gone from being the town tramp to the Matron, and how they even occassionaly still bring out Nancy Hughes. Gone are the days when they all went to church on Good Friday and listened to the same sermon ("The Last Three Words"?) EVERY SINGLE YEAR for decades. You'd think that someone would have goosed the minister, but since none of the characters seemed to go to church any other time, maybe they thought it was a ritual, LOL.

Here's a triva question: What did "Another World" replace? I think I know the answer, but I'm not sure. The show I'm thinking of was either a spin-off of "Another World" or the show that got axed in favor of it.

Trivia Answer

"Another World" premiered on May 4th, 1964, replacing reruns of "The Loretta Young Theater" which aired at 3:00 PM Eastern Time. ("Young" was moved to another timeslot on the NBC daytime schedule.) "World's" last episode aired June 25th, 1999. On July 5th, 1999, "Passions" became "World's" official replacement.

Somerset?

Somerset was a spinoff from Another World as was Texas. I don''t know what AW replaced. It wasn't The Secret Storm.

yeah another world

in Bay City wasnt it, then the spinoff another world in sommerset, IIRC Ann Wedgeworth, ( the one that baked the armadillo grooms cake in Steel Magnolias) was on Another W. in Sommerset, for some reason i think her husband was an attorney. Summer vacations from school in the seventies. LOL alr2903.

sorry

to doublepost, was trying to think of the other "gothic" soap besides Dark Shadows... Strange Paradise,, anybody remember that one?

Marty wins the contest!!!

Although it turns out I wasn't sure what the question was. All I knew was that there was a show called "Sommerset" that was somehow connected to Another World. Blame it on too many cocktails with Katherine Chancellor, or my jealous rivalry with Lisa Shay.

Yay!

I forgot about Ann Wedgeworth being on AW. She played Lahoma? I think she married Ada's (Rachel's Mom) brother Sam who i think was a lawyer. I remember Rue MaClannahan played the Cory's housekeeper and she deranged. I think she was poisoning Rachel so she could have Mac for herself. I just loved that show. Steve and Alice. Rachel was BAD back then. oh and Alice's sister Pat Randolph! Oh and Russ Matthews! Their brother who was first played by Sam Groom. Boy was he handsome! I sure miss that show!

Reading this thread has started me obsessing over Y&R. I started watching it when it started, home from school with the mumps, then picked it up again and again over the years. There were the Fosters - Jill, Greg and Snapper (David Hasselhoff), then the other family - what was their name?? Leslie, Laura (?) who were in love with Lucas and Lance, of course and Peggy who just appeared going upstairs once in a while - who was the other sister? Their father married Grace eventually.... Then Mrs. Chancellor married her hairdresser Derek whose ex-wife drugged her and tried to drive her insane and didn't Mrs. C. kill her? Help me......

I think the other family was the Brooks. Although I may be thinking of Foster Brooks. Jill Foster was Mrs. Chancellor's hair dresser in the beginning. Talk about having bad luck with stylists. She probably would have been better off getting a wig.
