We have a very old Maytag Dishwasher that I am absolutely in love with. There's nothing out there like it anymore, and the belt snapped today. My heart broke! We've searched online for a replacement, but can't find anything. If anyone has any ideas or is able to get us this part, it would be much appreciated.

Model #WUWC300 Maytag Dishwasher (portable)

Part #911471 Belt 240-50

could possibly be a Whirlpool belt

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps I'm mistaken Megan, but I think you have the wrong part number for that belt if we are thinking the same dishwasher. The WU(WC)300 uses the same silicone belt that all belt-drive Reverse Rack Maytags used from 1975 until the late 80s. I just did a part search for the WU/WC300 and the ORIGINAL part number comes up as 9-2115. FSP (Whirlpool) usually recodes that to 902115. Upon further investigation, the new number is 6-9021150. Dey Appliance lists it as in-stock at $35. You may be able to find it a tad cheaper other places, but this particular belt is not too hard to find YET. Also, make sure you apply some of the poly-lube when you install the new belt. You'll be amazed at how much quieter the DW runs, especially when its draining!

MT DW Belt

Thanks for the part number update Mark, these belts are actually made of urethane material not silicone, but silicone grease is applied because of all the noise problems that the urethane belts caused. Maytag cheeped out when they designed this DW as it was already an expensive machine to build because they had to put an extra shaft and bearing assembly in the pump that was usually taken care of by the motors bearings. If the had built it correctly they would have used a V-belt with a spring tensioned idler pulley and it would have lasted the life of the DW and never made a sound, despite Maytag's claims their DWs never enjoyed great reliability.

If this type design were being built today they would use a stretch poly-vee belt like those used in FL washers, this type of drive is virtually silent and very durable, but of coarse appliances are far more durable than those made in the 1970s and 80s. Just look how much more durable today's cars and trucks are today compared to that time period, not many of us are driving 1980s cars everyday LOL.

Thank you so much!

Never did I think I would find such a helpful group of people...about dishwashers! You all are absolutely amazing and have made it possible for me to hang on to my wonderful, old dishwasher. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Maytag belt-drive dishwasher

Congrats on searching for a fix for your Maytag dishwasher. I hope you are able to find the belt for a reasonable price.
When I was a junior in HS (1980) we got a WC700 in harvest wheat. We loved that machine! It is still in place but is seldom used since my 80 year old dad washes dished by hand. However I use it when I go back there. Over the years I replaced the belt, water valve, door switch, rinse-aid solenoid and the fan motor.

My house initially had a WU482 but I now have the Jenn-Air cousin direct drive model DWU9905. I also added a WC401 found on CL.

Continue to enjoy your Maytag dishwasher!
