Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Kenmore dw racks

I notice looking at the current KM dishwashers, that the bottom rack has not changed all that much since D&M were making their machines. They still have the same basic design they had 35 years ago.No fancy arrangements.

Does anyone know if WP dishwashers were made by D&M at any time? Consumers Digest had a feature in the late 80's or maybe about 90,of who makes who and who owns what.

WCI made a lot of dw's for others and i remember seeing WP as one of the companies they built dw's for, though i do not know if WCI built all WP machines or just some low end models.

Anybody out there know for sure?

Pat

Thanks all! Agiflow, you're correct, the lower rack in this machine is very similar to two other Sears machines I had. I really like it, and the familiarity of this one I think is one of the things that appealed to me.

I beleive W/P always made their own dishwashers. Sears Kenmores were exclusively made by D&M until the mid 80's when WCI bought D&M. One of the many things I liked about D&M built d/w's was the fact that the bottom rack had no cutouts, totally open like a Kitchenaid, so you could load as you like. Now most of the Kenmores are made by W/P Kitchenaid. There is also an Elite model now made by Bosch, and also the $178.00 special is now a Frigidaire. I'm wondering if GE is still making some d/w's for Sears as well.

When we had to retire our 20 plus year old Whirlpool dishwasher we purchased the Kenmore Elite just a step down from Scotts. The controls on on the front. The insdie is the same. We love it and with big family dinners on Sundays will hold nearly all in one load that took 2 with the old whirlpool. We were used to the indoor silverware holder but love the way the modular basket works on this one and the antinesting slots are great.

Look at the picture of the inside of Scott's diswasher. On the lower right is the basket that will break into 3 parts. There are lids that will raise up but these lids have the slots in them that lets you place each silverware in a slot to keep them from nesting together. Spoons are really bad about that in diswashers without these. Also the covers can keep samller items from being blown out during the wash/runse cycles.

Westie, I *love* those anitnesting slots! That's one of the coolest things about these machines. I usually use one of the small sections as a covered small items basket as you indicated.

I also like those fold down things on the top that you can use either to lay things on or hold stemware in place.

The design of the top rack also holds your glassware and things in place better. On the old Maytag, it was just sort of a flat track, and things could slide around, and I often would wind up with chipped edges on my glasses if someone pulled the rack in and out too hard or fast.

Must agree this is the best dishwasher we have ever had. Everything is so adjustable and it is quite. Our Kitchen/greatroom is all open we used to have to turn on the DW as we went to bed now can run anytime with no problems.
