Around 1983, my aunt Grace had a mystery machine I really liked; all I remember is the lid opened to the left, it had a mint blue agitator with what I called "Heart-Fins"--which was actually half the shape of a heart near the top, and it had a big filter with integrated fabric softener dispenser. This had a small pinball in a vertical track that would rise in the spin cycle to let the fabric softener escape at the end. The filter spout was also at the 12:00 position, and it had a removable service panel up front. The best thing I liked about this washer is it made a "boin-ko, boin-ko" sound, and I think this was a "Wizard" brand from Western Auto, but I'm not sure.

Yup, it's Franklin. Eddy has a good example of a Canadian version, blue agitator and all. The filter pan that went with this machine was a hat-shaped plastic, also blue but was made in white. There was an outer filter pan and inside a dispenser with a 3/8" ball that plugged a hole in the bottom of the fabric softener section. When the machine spins after the wash, the ball travels up the side of the pan, after it stops spinning, the ball drops back down into a channel leaving the hole open and the softener able to drain into the basket.
