I have a Maytag DG412 series 02, gas dryer. Bought 05-01-1986. It has developed a problem with the gas valve that I'm pretty sure is the coil, but I'd like to look at the schematic to get a better understanding of the burner sequence. I expected to find one taped inside the control panel like most Maytags, but no luck. This dryer was serviced 10 or so years ago, and I think the tech took the schematic out and kept it. I've done a lot of searching on the net, but no joy. Maytag's site is worthless. I got a nice parts list with exploded diagrams, which is helpful, but I'd still like to see the schematic.
My problem is that the burner lights up properly when the dryer is cold. Runs for 5 to 10 minutes until the clothes get up to temperature, then it shuts down normally. That part is good, but after a couple of minutes, when there is a call for heat, the front coil on the gas valve "rattles", and when the ignitor coil gets up to temp and the second coil engages, nothing happens. No gas. No flame.
I suspect that there's an internal problem in the coil(the front, 3 connector coil). When the coil is cold, it has a good circuit, but as it warms, it's current draw goes down. It still has enough to hold the valve open during the first cycle, but when it comes time to pull the valve open on the second and later cycles, it can't produce a strong enough magnetic field and it just rattles.
But it could also be a problem in one of the thermostats, they might not be fully snapping back onto their internal terminals and might be making a marginal connection when they're warm.
I'd really like to see a schematic so I can trace this all out and understand the sequencing better. For one thing, I've never seen a solenoid with 3 terminals! What the heck is up with that??? Maybe one internal coil to engage the solenoid and another part of the coil is a "hold" circuit? If so, that might explain what's happening in my dryer. If the coil warms up and the engage coil becomes an open circuit, the hold coil could be energized, but not have the energy to actually pull the valve open. I have a new set of coils on order, but I'd like to actually understand what's wrong, rather than just throwing darts at the problem.
Anyway, if anyone can email a jpg or pdf of a schematic for a Maytag DG412, or any model that's close to that, like maybe a DG512 or DG612, to [email protected]. Or just point me to a site where I can download it myself, it would be very appreciated. Thanks.
