Sounds interesting, a new detergent designed for eco (cold) washing. I might get some when I go shopping with my mum next and see what it's like lol.

But I'm sure it will be good.
 
Ariel Excel Gel

Hi Folks,
I got a mine at Asda for £2.00 per pack, I went to Tescos first as I read on this forum that they were to be the first stockist but alas they didn't have it. I bought all three varieties, Bio, Bio with Febreeze Effect and Colour & Style.

Well I done my first load of my white T-Shirts with the regular Bio in the Dyson @ 20°C on the cottons cycle with normal soil setting. Well I must say I am amazed as it removed a Chinese Curry stain which I got on one of my T-Shirts on Saturday evening, I have inspected every item and there is not the slightest trace of the stain. The scent is very pleasant and different from other the Ariel scents.

I don't know if I can get my head around this cold water washing idea but I certainly cannot fault its cleaning ability so far as my T-Shirts came out dazzling white. I will comment further when I have done a few more loads with different stains and using the Miele.

Hi Jon,
Yes it seems about the same 37ml for soft-medium water with normal soiling and 46ml max for hard water heavy soiling. Interestingly the pack feels quite heavy for its size heavier than the compact Ariel liquid does, I must weigh both packs later. It is an impressive product so far but the cold thing is hurting my brain LOL.

Got all 3 from Asda too - a bargain at £2 each! The bottle was much bigger than I was expecting but looks really nice. The gel has a great scent too and a thick consistency similar (but a bit thicker) to the regular Bold liquids I thought.

They clean brilliantly well. So far, better results than Persil small & mighty (and a much nicer scent). I haven't ventured below 30C yet though!

Just for completion's sake (!) to go with 2DrumsAllergy's Bio photo, here's a photo of the Colour and Bio with Febreze versions. I notice that the Colour version lists Optical Brighteners on the ingredients list, surely a mistake?!

How exciting for you guys! Would love to get a hold of them, I guess will have to wait for britsuperstore or britishcornersgop to hopefully list them. Enjoy!

Optical Brighteners

Hi Spoodles,
I don't think it's a mistake, I remember the first generation of colour detergents had Optical Brighteners to maintain the brightness of pastels and bright colours, I guess they have been introduced again for this very reason. Also there are now dedicated black detergents such as Dreft Dark which is excellent on black Jeans etc.

Yes indeed I am very impressed with the cleaning performance as that particular Chinese Curry is difficult to remove in anything less than hot water. As for Persil Small & Mighty I personally found it quite poor on stains as did Which? Magazine in their last batch of Liquid Detergent tests, in fact Which? found supermarkets own brands outperformed Persil Small & Mighty, Ariel Bio Liquid was the clear winner with Ariel Sensitive coming second.

P&G in Australia

Hello Jim,
do you have P&G products in Australia (I'm sure you do)? If so I would imagine this new cold water gel formula will be introduced soon. I understand there is a tendency for cold water washing in Australia so a huge potential market exists for such a product.

Hi David,

I didn't know that about OBs in the old colour liquids. And I'm surprised at those Which? results too. I think Persil S&M works best on only lightly soiled stuff. I've always found Ariel liquids superior on proper stains. Really surprised that the Ariel Gel shifted curry stains - that's pretty good going for a liquid.

I'm completely impressed with this new Ariel, even the dosing ball is an improvement. The soft bit stops it clanging around in the drum unlike the old style balls. I'm going back to Asda to stock up whilst it's still going for £2!

Oh and I love the image of the woman squirting the gel into her eyes under the flip top part of the lid. LOL!

Yes I was amazed that it shifted the Curry stain, I honestly did not expect that at all especially in such cool water. I checked each T-Shirt as I unloaded the machine always expecting the stained one to be next but the last one came out and not a stain to be seen. I even rechecked every item holding them up to the sunny window, not a trace of the curry anywhere. I wonder if it will shift Tomato based stains such as Bolognese sauce?

I do like the design of the bottles, it's just like a shower gel bottle lol. But hopefully it won't produce shower gel levels of suds!

Still, I think it's a great concept and one that will go down well.
 
P&G In Australia

We do have P&G in Oz but unfortunately they have not entered the laundry market :( I have emailed them to which they cleverly respond telling me to ask a friend to send me some. Oh well you guys enjoy your cold water washing. The coldest I like to go is 40. I just love new products my partner is amazed at all the different potions and lotions i have in the laundry room

I am sitting here in shock! There is a market that P&G have not yet saturated, I'm sure its only a matter of time till they introduce laundry products in Australia. P&G tend to manufacture in the market country so they will likely build a manufacturing facility in Australia prior to the introduction of any new product lines. Also they will reveal very little information in e-mails but their answer was certainly clever.

I have just put a load of towels on in my Miele W3985WPS and I noticed the gel was literally glowing in the daylight as I filled the dosing cap, it seems to be full of Optical Brighteners. I am washing the towels on the normal Cottons cycle at 20°C just for testing purposes; one of the towels was used to wipe up some Blackcurrant cordial my Grandmother spilled on her tray so it will be interesting to see if it comes clean. P&G claim brilliant cleaning from as low as 15°C but 20°C is my absolute limit LOL. I'm not a fan of cool or cold washing for towels but I am testing the product hence the 20°C temp. I will not wash bed linens any lower than 60°C so the washers will get at least a couple of hot loads each week, and I do at least one load of kitchen towels each week always at 85-95°C for hygene.
