Austin Fab Connie

I had an Orange one as my first vacuum in 1971 when I moved into my own "place". I was still in service until this year,
I gave it to a friend more than 20 years ago. Yours looks "factory fresh" . You better start saving for a 4000sq
ft warehouse, with a 200 amp service and high volume drain
capacity!

My Connies....

I have an orange constelation and a turquoise constelation. I don't really use them anymore, but I have them on display in the family room. Sometimes, just to mix it up a bit, I switch the lids off and make them two-toned. (Note to self: get out more)

You inspired me to purchase a celebrity to see what those are like. Found one on eBay for 40 bucks. I just can't wait to see John's face ;-)

Congratulations!

We had one of those, first vacuum I remember having when I was a kid. The earlier version, in gray, with the hose connection at the very top of the sphere. After that we got a Kenmore, almost identical to the one I have now (which is a 2-speed).

It would be cool to have one of those again. Hmm... tempting idea.... hmm...!

Other burning question...

What vacuum is that in the background of the first picture? I have been trying to figure it out since you posted it, I fianlly gave up trying.

Hi Reggie,

The front of my 1956 Electrolux Model S is peeking out at the top, and the "white thing" in the corner is the Douglas power nozzle (OY) for my 1989 Metro "Turbotronic" tank. You can also see the hose that belongs to that machine.

Official colors

Thats a beauty of a Connie Austin, and I have tools in their original color for you as well.
Your Connie is a later one, post 1973 I'd say from the colors. The lower color is medium taupe, the cord is light. The yellow is called ceylon yellow, and was also used on a Handivac, as well as on the model 1076 Convertible and 1157 Dial A Matic.

Model 843 was the Connie that went away for a while and then came back. That model was dropped from the line in 1969, only to return in 1971 after a great dealer outcry. Seems the demand for the tilted model was greater than Hoover thought.

I've got an older 843 from the late 60's, in the old colors of Autumn Gold and Seal Griege, a perfect match to my never used model 1060 Convertible.
Enjoy that connie!
