I treated myself to a new Bosch compact oven with built in microwave. It's more of an oven than the everage microwave convection oven. For instance it has a conventional oven function that can heat the oven up to 570F. Besides a conventional oven it's also a convection oven, a broiler and you can use the broiler together with the fan. The microwave part can be used together with the oven functions. It doesn't have a turntable like a normal microwave convection oven, but the antenna rotates. I took a few pictures.

Wow Louis, cool little oven! "Fully loaded", yet looks very simple to operate!

I absolutely CAN'T STAND American micro/convections. Not enough features, and CR said none of them do the job well (and actually included details on their findings, surprisingly).

Wish they had this here! I wonder if it can handle an 18 lb. turkey...

Louis, you have no idea how envious I am! Those are really nice ovens, in a whole different league to normal convection micros. Very good for everyday cooking, in fact many people find themselves using it more often than their regular oven.

Have fun and enjoy :o).

Luigi, I'm pea green with envy. That is a super looking appliance. I'd kill for that here in the states. Conveciton micros just aren't big enuf for my neesd. Something like what you have would erplace my range oven use 99% of the time. Are there other brands in Europe wit this type of device? Bosch does it again!!

My roommate bought a Delonghi oven very similar to this, that he likes very much. He bought it to replace an old microwave convection oven he'd had for years that died. We also have an OTR one that doesn't excite me too much, except for roasting.

It bakes with or without convection, broils and has a rotisserie.

Your Majesty, we very much like your oven as well, and agree with the others that it should be offered in the US.

Is the Bosch machine a "speedcook" oven like the GE Advantium?I have a GE Advantium oven and use it almost everyday.The Advantium can be used as a microwave and stove vent hood.Despite what CU said of the machine I really like mine and I am happy with it.Just wondered if the Bosch was a similar product.

Hi Louis, That is a beautiful oven. Somethng like that would really be a hit over here I would think. How long would you say it takes to pre-heat to 350. Looking forward to seeing you at the convention. Terry

Very nice "treat" for yourself, Louis! How large of capacity does it have? It looks fairly large, can these be built in if you had the space, etc. to do so? I was peering into a Miele steam oven the other day while loitering around the dishwashers - what a fun toy that would be too! Congrats on the new oven, will you be bringing lots of baked goods over with you in June? ;-)

Actually the production of this model was discontinued. I got the model that was on the shelf in the store after a close inspection if it was damaged or not. It looked undamaged so I made the purchase. Bosch is introducing a new line of Quantum Speed compact ovens with microwave. (mine isn't a speed cook oven) They look very sleek but it comes with a much higher price tag. The new models have a turntable and a max oven temp of 480 degrees, so I decided that I wanted the old model.

Some technical information about this oven:

220 - 230V 50Hz, 3.6kW which means it is 16Amps.
Oven = 2500Watts
Broiler = 2000 Watts
Microwave = 800, 600, 360, 180 or 90 Watts, when in use it draws max. 1550 Watts.

There is a fast preheat function, I timed it and it takes 5 minutes and 15 seconds to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. I don't think I will use that function very often because I think preheating an oven needs more time so not only the air is hot but also the whole oven.

These ovens were also available in built-in versions in several colors and materials. A lot of people bought these for their new kitchens instead of an oven and a separate microwave.

Because I am in a rental unit I had to buy the freestanding model.

Greg,

The steam ovens are a big hit overhere at the moment. You see them a lot in the more expensive kitchens. Bosch is offering a new model too, but I haven't seen a picture of it yet. I bet it will look very much the same as the new Quantum Speed Ovens.

BTW, send me some recipes that I can bake three weeks ahead and that will survive two flights and quite a few more miles in June.

Louis
