Recently received my new Bosch washer and dryer. They are the discontinued Ascenta series for my new laundry closet. I like them a lot.

Lobe Bosch machines. Got a series 6 in the UK. Honestly, when you go to John Lewis or Currys and see these machines up against anything from Indiset, Candy, or Hoover, you really appreciate the build quality of them. They are really nicely finished. Performance of mine has been rock solid for nearly a year now. Hope you enjoy these. Bosch stuff lasts.

Bosch machines
Thanks oliveoiltinfoil. I agree the build quality of these machines is very good. The dryer I got through eBay from California looked like it had been through WWIII when I received it (the top/shelf was broken like something huge fell on it; several dents in the sides). The drum and internal parts weren't affected at all. It works flawlessly. The washer I got from an "oversupply" company, eBay as well was never used, probably a display unit. I'm impressed with it as well.

People who don't like condenser dryers haven't had one that's decent. The Bosch works as well as any electric vented dryer.

I agree about condenser dryers. I never had a problem with the one I had for 3 years.

I like my Asko 24" condenser dryer-only(very minor)complaint I have with the dryer is clothes sometimes have a faint "cigarette-ish"odor from lint particles burning on the element-the smoke recirculated in the closed loop heated air path.The condenser core needs cleaned about every 10 loads-something the average American user might never do-calling in for repain when dryer stops working...I also have a 24",korean made GE condenser,but I haven't tried that one yet.

cfz2882 that's interesting. I cleaned the condenser core on my Bosch after I had already used it for something like 5 loads only because it was used when I got it. It had some lint in it but was really not that dirty at all. The performance of the dryer was really good anyway; I just thought I should clean it. I bet whoever had the dryer before didn't clean it ever. I agree most people in NA wouldn't think about cleaning a condenser since they never had to do that kind of thing, although it's not hard at all. Also wiping out the air path I think helps when you do it. I never noticed any burn smell in mine.

If I'm not mistaken, the Asko uses a wire type heater, like most dryers, not unlike a toaster actually. These have the tendency to be more efficent in terms of heat transfer, but also more fragile and dangerous due to the actually red hot wire surface.
The Bosch has a coil heater (like the washer) with a heat sink molded onto it. This results in slightly less efficient heat transfer, but reduces the risk of lint ignition and is way less fragile, especially if some type of metal item makes it from the drum to the heater.

I am pretty sure the Asco does indeed have standard open nichrome wire elements-the Bosch arrangement you describe of enclosed calrod with heatsink cast around it a safer,more durable
I was going to use my inspection camera and have a look at the Asco's elements,but camera battery was dead-will have look later The model of my Asco is T712C,~2010 year, drum has two offset paddles that create a "figure eight"tumble pattern.

That's really interesting about the different designs of the condenser systems. I've never had one before now. All the dryers I've every owned were either vented electric or gas. I still like my Kenmore Series 70 circa 1991 gas dryer. Gas dryers seem to be less likely to "bake". I think I'll still use it in the summer since the Bosch puts out hot air into the room.
Jim - I ran a 240V 30A circuit to my laundry closet. It was easy. A 120V machine wouldn't heat up the water as well.

Nice Bosch machines
After over a month of use I am really liking these Bosch machines. Rinsing is excellent esp. with extra rinse but even without it's great. Clothes come out very clean and soft with just 1 1/2 tablespoon of Tide.
