These are the "New to Me" Maytags that I recently acquired after my A412 had transmission problems. Great shape, and early Almond color. As far as I can tell, the only thing wrong is the crystal knob center chrome cover had two clips broken, and will not stay on. I hate to glue it since I may be able to find a replacement. Knob is on Ebay for $15, but hate to pay that for the cover. Enjoy the pictures. Any comments or ideas for the knob are appreciated. Interested in date of manufacture if anyone knows. The pair is interesting because dryer is almost TOL, and washer is standard tub model. Many thanks. Kenw

this is what I came up with...

Brand: Maytag
Type: Clothes Washer
Country: USA
Model: LA208
Serial: 393528AA
manufactured January of 1978

As for the dryer, it was hard for me to see the serial numbers.
BUT if it also ends in "AA" like the washer, than it would be the same year & month as the washer

CONGRATULATIONS
On the nice set of center-dial maytags. They do look very clean & shiney!
:o)

Thank you for your kind words electronicontrl and hippiedoll. Yes, I believe it was January of 1978 for both of them. They were owned by an elderly lady who lived in a small condo in Atlanta. The machines had been there for the last 25 years. She obviously took good care of them. She liked fabric softener. The fabric softener cup and lint filter had a little gunk, but otherwise very clean.

Thank you for your encouragement, panthera. Yes, I actually saw a similar dryer on Craigslist, running no less, for $35. For $20 more than the Ebay knob, I can get the whole dryer and not just a metal cap! Haha. Many thanks.

Thank you, cornutt. Silicone is a good idea, and would work as you stated. I will keep my eyes open for a clean chrome knob cap, but I may use your suggestion if I'm uable to locate one. Many thanks.

If anyone has an extra Maytag center dial with crystal knob, center knob chrome cover cap, I would be happy to purchase it and pay for shipping. Mine has two clips broken, and will not stay on. Many thanks, Ken

Thank you very much, goatfarmer. Please send me your address for payment. I only need the snap on center chrome cap. Many thanks, Ken

LA208 & LDE608

Let's de-code the model #s.

L = color code for Almond.

A208 = Automatic washer, regular (smaller) capacity, 2 speed motor. The A208 was as high end as you could get with the smaller tub. The lower models included the A108 & super-BOL A106, both of which had single-spee dmotors.

DE608 = Dryer Electric, 608 was 2nd down from TOL and utilized an electronic moisture sensing control. The 808 dryers had a lighted control panel and interior light. I don't know if the 608 dryers had lighted drums or not.

My 1st set was an A208 & DE308 (timed dry only). I still have them and while I don't care for the timed cycles of the DE308, I love the A208. It offers cleaning capabilities and capacity that fit my needs nicely.

Thank you Volvoguy87. That is great information. They were both manufactured in January of 1978 as hippiedoll stated. Thanks.

Oh my goodness! That is very nice, and indicative of the help, support, and community on this board. I would like to reimburse your expenses at least, and I will indeed pay it forward to someone else. Many thanks.

All the best,
Ken
