Hey, everyone! So, I'm home on Christmas break and my parents tell me it's time to get a new "temporary" (until they start remodeling the house) dishwasher, as our old Maytag is worn out and literally falling out from where it's built in. For those who want to know, we got it around 1990 and the model number is WU704. My question is this: is there a good dishwasher for under $400? The full criteria for what we're looking for is here:

A.) $400 or less
B.) Must be (Strongly preferable) from Home Depot, as they have a huge gift card to spend there.
C.) Must be quiet, clean well w/ out pre-rinsing, and be able to hold a lot.

So far, the only machines that met my approval were some of the middle of the line Maytags that were $349-399. The 'rents were also open to a Whirlpool (they had one for 17 years when they were first married) or a Kenmore. I know these threads are packed full of GREAT info., which I've read, so thanx to everyone for sharing!

The top of the line WP with the regular tub, not tall tub, is still a great performer. WP reps told us at the dinner meeting where the tall tubs were introduced that the tall tub models had the Energy Star rating but that the standard tub DWs with the Power Clean Module did not. Message implied and meant to be inferred was that the Power Clean was the one that cleaned best if you were accustomed to loading a dishwasher without rinsing the items first.

inexpensive dishwasher

Was in a Big Lots! store a couple of weeks ago and they had an electronic control 3 level wash GE for $200
