looking for a dishwasher for our ne home. My old one was a Kitchenaid made by Hobart, so it was fast and the dishes came out clean. Is there any brand today that is almost as good?
it still works, looking for a second homeI'd repair it, instead of "buy new" like the "throw away" society has adopted.
I always rinse everything, but on big holiday dinners when I have to run it two or three times, my 38 year old d/w with the half hour cycle means I won't be up till 1:00 AM cleaning up. Maybe two dishwashers is the answer for me.Best brand is still a KitchenAid, KitchenAid makes the most advanced dishwasher in the world with a true self cleaning filter system., No one else has anything like it. It has a much larger stronger motor than any other dishwasher. The KitchenAid dishwasher is a 5 pound motor compared to Bosch is 1 pound unit.
Most dishwashers have a quick one hour cycle however it doesn’t do a thorough job. It doesn’t heat the water adequately and if it used on a continuous basis, it usually results in less than great performance. It’s intended for loads that are pretty clean when they go in.
The modern pod detergent work better in a longer cycle, which is usually in the two hour range the long two hour cycle actually uses less water and a whole lot less energy than your old dishwasher, modern dishwashers also do not destroy the dishes and etch them like older dishwashers did with the fast cycles and powerful detergent.
I think you’ll be surprised how much you like a new machine, the most important thing is to use it as intended put the dishes in dirty and just enjoy not having to do all that work of rinsing and so forth.

I am with Bob completely! What's the point of rinsing dishes before running them in the dishwasher?? That's the same as cleaning the house before the house cleaning lady comes! Asinine & completely senseless.I don't rinse a darn thing. At best I'll scrape. Load machine and wait for full load to accumulate.
Better yet, I'd hunt down a Whirlpool power clean dishwasher in good to perfect working order.I'd repair it, instead of "buy new" like the "throw away" society has adopted.
I have the same mindset as you!I don't rinse a darn thing. At best I'll scrape. Load machine and wait for full load to accumulate.
The dishwasher rinses the dishes anyway!I am with Bob completely! What's the point of rinsing dishes before running them in the dishwasher?? That's the same as cleaning the house before the house cleaning lady comes! Asinine & completely senseless.
Hey, my Kichenaid KDC-19 is decades old now, and still doing a great job for me.Well you all convinced me, I took the Bosch out of my cart and am getting the Kitchenaid KDPM804KPS. I may get two, I do have the space in the new house. Thank you all!
Just two days ago the front panel cracked on our Kitchen Aid purchased 3-1/2 years ago. This is a common problem within this timeline with no fix except to replace the entire thing. Very dissapointing from Kitchen Aid and it's replacement will not be from Whirlpool. Here is a link that frustrations about that very thing:
This photo is on ours:
I have been looking at Bosch when it comes time to replace it. Miele as well, any thoughts about them? What I would love is to find a KitchenAid KDS 22-23, somewhere around that time frame.Well, looks like I'll continueing eyeing Bosch again down the road. The cleaning is excellent and I love plastics are safe anywhere with CrystalDry (Zeolite)
I wish Mieles were accessible. My LG has dynamic drying technology.I have been looking at Bosch when it comes time to replace it. Miele as well, any thoughts about them? What I would love is to find a KitchenAid KDS 22-23, somewhere around that time frame.
I miss the power clean and point voyager dishwashers.I don't think I've ever seen two dishwashers other than in a Kosher kitchen with two of everything. It seems like a great idea if you have the room, and the need. We run ours about twice a week, so it wouldn't be worth the trouble except for the redundancy in case one quits. We were without ours for a week or so waiting for a new pump a few years back. Cheap little Chinese-made thing with a motor about the size of a bathroom vent fan, in a top-tier KA. I miss the old 1/3hp ball bearing ones. Yes, you could hear it run about anywhere in the house, but they never died unless the seal failed and you let it go for months.
Better than any Bosch, Miele, Kitchen-Aid, EU models or even commercial units.
My KDS-18 outperformed my TOL late 90's Kenmore Powerclean on the old powdered Cascade formula. I never did the test back to back with enzyme based powdered Cascade detergent. Lots of water and brute force consistently won out. The KDS-18 probably wouldn't do well with the cake test though. The problem with my sensor based Powerclean is that it would jump ahead 17 minutes on the main wash if the sensor didn't detect enough dirty water and would underwash certain items, like avocado smeared on a knife. That was on the "Normal" cycle for both machines, with "Hi Temp Wash" and "Sani Rinse" selected on the Kenmore.
Food goes in my stomach, not wasted in the dishwasher. All of my dishware is pretty well cleaned up and I strive not to burn anything in pots or pans. Ive loaded some really dirty loads into the 18 expecting it to fail and redistribute food to at least the top rack, but didn't. Using lots of 150F water aggressively flinging it around certainly helps breakdown food.Key is cooler water and running the Heavy or Pots and Pans cycle with options of course to force a 140*F thermal hold in the main wash. Around that time there were starting to relabel the light and miser cycles to normal.
KDS-18 can not do the level of maceration and soil processing that a Power Clean can do even though the KDS-18 is a nominee for a great machine.
I have the exact opposite set up…..I’ve got F&P dishdrawers in my laundry room and a full sized Miele in the kitchen. The laundry room adjoins my home hair salon so 99.9% of the time the dishdrawers are just for client coffee cups and saucers. I’m afraid I don’t like them very much….the spray arm is incredibly easy to block even with cups and saucers, I often have to run a cycle again due to that. Maybe because I’m not experienced at loading everyday loads or maybe because I wash EVERYTHING in the dishwasher but I find the capacity wouldn’t work for me as a primary dishwasher, I feel as soon as there’s a pan or two in there you’re virtually full. My Miele is XXL capacity and I can always get everything into it. And the final insult is that just out of warranty my top drawer is faulty and needing a repair :-(I have the F&P double dish drawer. The two independent drawers work great and hold a fair bit of crockery etc. I have a second full size Bosch dishwasher in the laundry room. I thought I would need to use it over Christmas as we had friends over but two dish drawers managed big loads easily.
