I bought a 60-load box of the new compact Era powder at Family Dollar last night for $5.50. Used it on a load of whites in hot water. My opinion: Meh. It cleaned OK, but not as good as Tide w/bleach powder.

The box said "Original Scent." Original to what? Since this is a brand new product, I assumed it would smell like Era liquid (which I really like). It didn't. In the box and in the washer, the scent was not unpleasant. In the dryer, however, the lingering scent was bad. I couldn't handle it. I walked outdoors to do something else during the drying cycle and could smell the pungent odor coming out of the vent. IMO, the smell seemed peppery with a touch of staleness--not at all pleasant. I use unscented Downy liquid fabric softener, so that definitely wasn't the issue. I re-washed the load in Tide and all was well.

The remaining 59 loads worth of new Era powder are now in the trash.

You threw it in the trash!!

Now what a wasteful Nettie.
One could donate this item to a shelter, (animal or human) or Put in your next donation to the the local food bank.
Some of our local food pantries collect laundry and personal items as well as pet food for the needy.

Some of the needy families do get food assistance, but they can't buy washing or pet supplies with their food stamps. These donations help them out immensely. Many of the animals that end up in shelters can remain with their owners if they have the ability to care for them.

So next time you find a detergent sale. Pick up an extra box or bottle for the needy. Other items that are appreciated are toothbrushes, toothpaste, toliet paper, deoderant.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by a nosey do gooder, that has no business telling people what to do. But he did it anyway, so please forgive him.

Point taken

You're absolutely right. I've donated unused/unwanted cleaning items in the past, and I should've done so this time. I'm ashamed. I'll know better in the future.
