Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I love mine!

It's quiet (my bedroom is just two steps-or less from the kitchen), cold, energy efficient, and has a light in the freezer!

It's been, overall, very satisfactory. As for the thermostat chip and defrost fan, could happen to any fridge.

My bottom freezer Whirlpool is clearly based on an Amana design....I have the one with the DOOR, which I prefer.

You pays your money and you take your chances--with all of them.

Well you have come to the right place! I have a Whirlpool bottom mount freezer with the solid ref door and it is a solid performer. This fridge was made by Amana. The model # GB2FHDXWS04 which is top rated in CU. Its a 22 cu ft fridge with stainless stell outside and a deep black cabinet. Also has an ice maker as well. The freezer is a tad smallish since the baskets come out with the door like a drawer. So far no issues with it and temp control is spot on.

Very little trouble

Had the Amana (now owned by Whirlpool) bottom freezer unit. It was sold with the Chicago condo.

One repair in about a decade of use. A screw fell out of the fan motor and the blade stalled.
Amana had factory service at the time. The guy came out, fixed a loose screw, charged us reasonably and was out the door super fast.
No complaints here!

I Love Bottom Freezers!

I grew up with one - a '58 GE Combination.

It's great to have the fridge section at eye level. There is a trade-off, in that the freezer section is not at eye level, but it's very copable for me. Not everyone feels that way, you understand.

I'd say do it. Amana is a great brand; I'm looking for a vintage one from the '70s.

Thanks guys

I just bought a new 22 cu. in. bottom Whirlpool 'fridge today in white. I bought it from a mom and pop store that has been in business for 50 years. Great service, prompt, and efficient. I also had the wife of one of the people there as a student. Sure is nice to do business locally and forget the huge box stores that have no clue on anything except the money it costs and the check that you write. Gary

Nice recessed installation there..... and stickers.

Does your frig protrude into a closet in another room?

Cabinet depth....

YES...how did you get that so far back into the cabinet area? I wish I had the wall behind mine notched when the house was being built, so I could have had a cabinet depth look' without buying the over priced, undersized models that are that way/

It's not only an Amana design...

but last I knew bottom freezer models are still made right there in Amana Iowa!

Sandy, wish I'd known, we got rid of a very clean '70s Amana a couple years ago that had the cool aluminum trim with the cool stamped doo-hickey designs on all the shelf racks, handle &c. It was in a rental house we had, and electric was included in the rent, so we opted for a much more efficient Energy Star Whirley. It was a top freezer though.
