Yesterday I went to a trade show for independent appliance retailers and spent a few hours reviewing the new appliances from GE, WP, KA, MT, mostly skipped LG as time was short and finally Frigidaire-Electrolux.
First of all the show was held in the convention center of the beautiful new Gaylord Hotel at National Harbor in Prince Georges County Maryland... WOW what a beautiful development with stunning views overlooking the Potomac River and Washing DC. If you live here or plan to visit the area this is just one more great attraction that is worth checking out.
The awaited new FD TL washers are interesting, I an going to call them Agitatub2 as the plastic wash basket and what looks like an impeller disk in the bottom are one piece. They make two different levels of this washer, the more expensive model has a window ans a pump to recirculate the water as it is washing through 6 ports around the tub cover. The basket assembly makes about four revolutions in each direction as it washes, it looks fairly impressive but they only had about four small hand towels in it [ I can't in vision what it would do with 8 pairs of men jeans LOL ] They also have a less expensive model that lacks the water recirculation and a window [ I am sure that you wouldn't want to watch that one. The better one is around $600 and the other around $500 and both should be available in September.
GE has some interesting new laundry products cumming out by years end. These are a new line of BIGGER TL washers and dryers, the washer will be available in capacities of 4.8 and 5 cubic feet and the dryers are 7.8 CF, these machines will all be 28" wide. These new machines have a very dramatic styling [ control panel slightly reminiscent of 1961-2 Frigidaire Custom Imperial W&Ds ] The washers are to be built here and the dryers in Mexico. The dryers look to be LG drum style which is basically a copy of WPs four roller 27" dryers. But thank goodness they are finally getting away from the one piece drum that are basically clothes scorchers and lint collectors and general fire hazards. Even MT figured this out in the 1970s when they abandoned the HOH dryer.
If I have time later I will try to post more and they did let me take some pictures but I am not sure whether I should post them on the products that are not out yet?
