New Garbage Disposer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

According to MM's website-these machines are being installed in sewage systems all over the country-and some others.Maybe THATS what I need to get rid of the tree branches in my backyard?probably would grind them into mulch. And the neighbors would love this-"Hey don't put that couch on the trashpile-feed it to my disposer--MUFFIN MONSTER!"Same with pallets. However my septic tank would be so reciptive of such things. And oh yes-maybe even fit it with a gas motor so it could be used in the yard.Planning to see the movie the machine "stars" in when its relaesed on DVD-Blu Ray at that on 2-26.And yes you wouldn't get back anything you drop into Muffin Monster-so be sure you don't WANT it before dropping it in!And if its in a sewage system-the main guideline here is --"DON'T FALL IN!!"

Sewer Shredders...

I remember watching some show on TLC a couple of years ago about amazing machines, and these shredders were featured, and actually shown in action...
I suppose given the stuff thats dumped in the sewers they would almost be necessary in order to keep things moving along.

Titan Update

Costco is running an online special (costco.com) for a "Titan 1-1/4 Horsepower Deluxe Disposer Item 264007" for 109.99 with member coupon. The ones I got for $70 are 3/4 HP each - which seems to be more than adequate for the task, but I confess I'm a little curious as to what, if any, other features the 1-1/4 HP model might have. It looks like it has the same plastic drain mount system that the 3/4 HP has, though.

So I checked the website and sure enough there it is. It would appear that the only feature it has, besides the larger motor, is the "Silver Guard", which is a pair of strong magnets mounted just under the sink to try to catch metal objects before then enter the grinding chamber. This device is also available separately from Anaheim for about $30, as I recall.

Here's the Costco link:

I don't have a Costco in my area but have a Sams club-maybe they carry Titan disposals.Would like to check the 1and 1/4hp unit out.Often Costco and Sams club have the same items.Have to renew my membership.Sadly with the "silver guard" some flatware is NOT magnetic-so there it goes! The magnets could help in preventing other things from falling in.Its a good idea though.Thats a good thing about PM motors-you can get more HP with less power draw.Same idea of the commercial floor machines and burnishers-they use similar motors.Had to fix those at the tool repair shop-mostly rectifiers burned out.Radio Shack at the time to the rescue-their 15-20A bridge units worked. Many electric lawnmowers also have the PM motors.Just the right speed for spinning the blade.the floor units had a belt or gear drive reducers to spins the pads at lower speeds.

1 1/4 HP?

YIKES!
You could just about put old tires down that!
Look at the size of the machine though...its HUGE!!

I'd still rather have the metal 3-bolt mounting too.

Yea I agree with Jeff on this one.I hate that small opening and all that plastic under the steel.Yes that disposer would be unstopable when it comes to grinding things trust me I tried to destroy my G.e. 1h.p. and couldnt. If I get it I will take it apart and Use some J&b cold weld and fix the hammers on it just so it don't click but thats if I get it.I have just redone that old FC-10 Maytag took it apart and lubed everything and it is unreal.Very quite disposer just a slight hum bones and all don't upset it at all.The bulid Q&C on these are nothing like today disposers which are all toss away of course.I love the Fact that the hammers are attached to the flywheel where they Float above the steel unlike everybody else and when the swing away they hit rubber. So you never hear that steel against steel sound..To change the subject real quick what are thoese I-S-E medallion Disposers with that 1.1 H.p. I remeber somebody telling me but I have Epilepsy it is controlled but the meds fry my Memory so bad.I have seen a few but if they have that same setup like the old 777ss then no way.:)

Note on WK,Aneheim,GE PM mag motor disposers-I did burn out the rectifier in a GE 1Hp-fed too much at once-the machine quit and tripped its breaker-could not reset it-would trip again. If that the case-(motor would not try to run)you could try replacing the rectifier.Used to be able to get them at Radio Shack-similar bridge rectifiers used in the PM motor floor machines. They are not real hard to replace-its just finding a replacement.the GE sits aside until I can get a rect.
On the Older Maytag disposers-please note-the rubber hammer bumpers can deteroiate in some water conditions-esp in the hard water.A Maytag dealer in VA stopped carrying the disposers because of this. The hammer design in those was excellent. And the nice CAST shred ring. The Maytags also had an undercutter. Now its just ISE ones with Maytags name on 'em.Oh yes-on the Aneheim style disposers-including the Titan-the motor housing is metal. The outer shroud-sound sheild is plastic. The motor on PM disposers is tall and slender.-not short and wide-heavy as on the induction motored models.

Thanks Tolivac.I have already ordered me another grind ring for the Maytag and I guess I will go ahead an order the Rubber center bump stop also.I tore that thing all the way down and got it in the sink on WED.The Machine is wonderful and VERY quite also.Bones of any type don't Phase it at all and it don't seem to work hard on them either.I have always been a MORE Power type of guy the biggest a baddest but the 1/2 H.p. in the Maytag is plenty so Far and I think its all because the way its designed. The Cast ring is the biggest of any disposer for the home I have seen.I have quite a few disposers to say the least nothing like what Jeff has but I am always adding to it.I have a older Waste King SS5000 its a 92 model with the cast ring in it undercutters and the works but I was shocked on how fast the ring Dulled.Yes I am hard on machines but this dulled to fast for me I had it in less than a year and it was getting slower and slower.I will work on it one day also after I get done with the other ones.I routed the dishwasher to drain it the other sink just so I could keep thoese Chems out of that Maytag it took WAY to long to get that one and I might be even a little less rough on it than the other ones, well maybe.

Thats awesome Greg

Looks like the splash guard is properly in place too.
I know you will love that disposer, IMHO thats the best ever made!
