New GE Washer

I purchase from Home Depot a new GE washer in November 2005 model WHDRR418EWW to replace a 20 year Maytag. Didn't have the time or money to invest in repairing the old Maytag.

Question is on the new GE washer the lid switch seems to be a magnectic type switch. The piece on the lid makes contact with the piece on the cabinet with a deffinite click. Anyone know how to override the switch? It's a little annoying as we can never see the agitation to make sure it has enough water in it. If I break this switch my wife will be irrate with me!

Any advice?

Answer

I believe in a previous post someone used a large magnet placed on the lid switch to override it. I posted yesterday about overriding a lid switch on a Whirlpool Gold machine which I am getting to replace a front loading machine that does not rinse well.

Hi! Bryan, I'm sure that everyone besides myself is curious to know what Brand and how old of a Front-Load of Washer your replacing and why is it not Rinsing well?

Curious minds are waiting to know. Maybe possibly some Pix of the Front-Load Washer as well!!!

Front Loading Machine

It is a Frigidaire 2940 model from Lowe's. Very disappointed in it's lack of ability to rinse well. I expected to much from it I suppose.

Wait till you see how fast and short the agitation arc is...

On mine I have to use TWO bar shaped magnets, running left-right one over the other.

If the machine were to be mine forever(I'm moving) I would have bypassed the switch electrically, lickety-split.

HINT HINT. The front panel of the machine comes off VERY easily. Use a spatula or small screwdriver to push in the upper tabs. Tilt out front, lift off bottom *hook-mounts *VOILA*. Short the switch out. Insulate. close it up. Happy surgery! [Although the magnets make sense 'till the warranty expires!]
