Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hotpoint have never been a low end brand. They had their lower end models, but were mostly mid-high end in the UK, alongside Hoover and Servis. Servis only became a budget brand after the 1990 Merloni take over. Indesit have always been the budget brand here, although a lot of their older machines were much more reliable and high performing than the newer ranges.

The high end brands were Bosch, AEG, Zanussi and Miele.

As I said, the newest Hotpoint range has proven to be a really decent performer and Indesit appear to be improving. Only time will tell with the reliability issues. But this just backs up the argument that a lower end manufacturer can offer a good machine. Compare the current Indesits with the diabolical Evolution range - the new machines are better in just about everyway. Without trying them, what's to say Vestel haven't got it spot on with these new Servis machines? I'm not saying they have, but I think it's important to remain open minded about it

@ Aquacycle

is the "diabolical Evolution range" meant to be Candy Evo's, or some other brands range called "evolution"?

That new Amica looks a lot better for me than Servis's...now what is the PowerDry technology that is clearly displayed on Amica? :)

I think it comes down to that old saying..............

You pay your money and take your choice...!!!

Lets face it no matter who makes what or whatever the name is it is only that JUST A NAME !!

I am sure there are lots of machines of all makes that are running after a number of years without failure.

How many of us have bought a tol model all singing and dancing only to find out it was the last one made on the friday before a national holiday ???

If you take into consideration the amount of washing machines in use today its only a handful that you hear of failing.

There's nothing wrong with the Beko brand. It's made in Turkey - so what! What is important is the reliability and performance of a machine. My Zanussi Jetsystem and previous Flexi Dose are made in the same factory but the Flexi Dose are complete rubbish and I'd never touch one again. The Jetsystem on the other hand has been great. 2 products from same manufacturer, yet so different.

The latest Beko machines look very appealing to me and I know many happy owners of Beko products who will buy them again if they need to.

I was referring to the Indesit Evolution series machines. This and the lower models that ran below it have to be one of the most attricous washing machines ever made

Well, I think it depends on the model. My best friend has a 5 year old model (1200rpm, 5kg, variable spin) and that does static fills, whereas my Aunty Lynne's brand new model is higher up in the range. The first fill is static, but as it tops up the water after the first few tumbles, it continues to tumble as it fills.

The older models (or at least, the lower end models) all used to have timed fills rather than sensored fills, but from what I've seen the new ranges seem to use a proper sensor.

I find it has some Piano key styling already this new Servis under the display, a Full length Display next please, with more piano Keys, and they've cracked it I guess?

@haxisfan The Indesit range you are referring to is called Innex, and its pretty good actually, compared to other Indesit of the past - feature wise with stain removal technology, a 9 minute fast wash and most importantly the Push & Go Feature (which I'm sure will be the most wash cycle that people use) as its simple.

Hi Glenfield...

I might've got the description wrong... but I knew what AquaCycle meant... the model featured in the picture he posted was a nightmare... I remember my aunt had 1 of them and with an average of 2-3 washes a week it only lasted 5 years... but the worst thing was the dodgy performance... she was always complaining! Mind you... I wasn't there to see how she did the wash :-P

I'm good thanx, I trust u r 2 ;)

Maybe those Indesit weren't exploding... not to my knowledge anyway. The one my aunt had stopped working because of a PCB failure and the engineer wrote it off (she's got an Ariston now but she doesn't know they're the same company LOL).

As for the Servis... they sure look smart... but it's still too early to express a judgement... the same way I feel about my recent Hoovers. Maybe we should just sit back and observe... I mean... watch :D

The main problem I remember with that Indesit series was the timer would advance through the whole cycle in about 10 minutes and the machine would stop mid-wash. It also had an issue where the machine would stop and timer would just continually advance round over and over again until you turned the machine off. The high end machines had digital timers and this was less of an issue, but the lower end machines with the mechanical timers were forever failing. There were numerous other issues - premature bearing and brush failure was also noted. Add that to the poor wash performance overall and the machine was hopeless.

Timer issues

Exactly the same problems which caused my mum's hoover performa to die a death after just 3 years, dial would endlessly click round and round and the machine would stop mid cycle.

Our neighbour had an early 2000s indesit...it couldn't even get grass stains out of jeans on a 60c wash with ariel bio powder and the stains having been pre-treated and scrubbed beforehand!

Why was the wash so poor? Was it lack of agitation? Low water levels? I had a problem with stain removal on the 2011 Zanussi Flexi Dose but luckily not on the Jetsystem model. I know the Indesits of today wash well.

When our hoover softwave died in 2003 mum ordered a basic indesit, from square one we had problems, it leaked through the door as the screws weren't tight enough, then after 3 months the pump went, then after another 3 months, it had a new motor and things kept getting jammed into the pump impellor, with a family of 6 at that time and indesit taking ages to come out and look at it, the machine was scrapped in 2004. Mum said that if she had a bit more money at the time and put more thought into it, we would have had a tricity bendix washer, we had a hoover MEGA 7 1300 after the indesit and it was a lot better, albeit took ages to wash, it leaked because of a nail and the inner tube leaked onto the controls, the machine died after 2 years because of the leak.

SERVIS

With that amount of wash water there is no way it can heat up to 30 deg but if your not on a water meter it's a great freshen up programme.
