Hi all

I have been thinking of replacing my washer in my flat, which is currently a standard 1400 spin Whirlpool from the 90s. It's not a bad machine but is noisy and just for occasional back up I wouldn't mind a washer dryer (no space for a dryer). I have also never owned a Jetsystem type machine.

I have been reading up on various machines and really like the sound of the Zanussi Jetsystem. I want a quiet machine that I can run later in the evening. I also need a delay timer (which puts out a Miele unless I want to spend a fortune)! What are Zanussi's like for -

Wash times - I want to do a load in about an hour
Balancing - Do they take an age to spin or faff about
Rinsing - I've heard this can be poor due to lack of water (but then my flat is on a water meter)
Any nasties - I should know about
Noise - General noise levels

I do not need a machine to last forever as I only stay there a few times a week. I also don't really need a very large drum but am open to the idea and the dryer and Jetsystem bit is not a neccesity.

Any advice you guys could give would be much appreciated. Including any other recommendations.

Dont think you can go wrong with that in all honesty- you could consider the non Jetsystem version the ZWD14270W1 but you lose capacity and the display- also I must admit to being a fan of Jetsystem machines, ive not had any rinsing issues with my Insight. :)

Hi Rob I used to have a older generation jetsystem the xc 1400. i bought in 2002 and from day one it would do on average 15 loads a week sometimes more (lived in a shared house with 3 other guys for 6 months) I gave it to the pub were my partner used to work last year for them to use in the flat above the pub. I never had any probs with it and it's still going strong. I changed it for a miele novotronic I bought of ebay. The only thing really was the wash times were abit long unless you used quick wash, which is fine for most everyday lightly soiled items. Mine seemed to balance ok most of the time and the rinses seemed ok for most of the part as well. Hope this helps. Rich

GET IT:D lol. Wash times are abit long, but the quick wash button makes things them under an hour, I personally like the jet, its good at really pentrating the load, it get a load damp really quick, and is good at stain removal as it really penetrates the fibres, the only downside to the jet is after each rinse it dumps a few suds from the pump back onto the load. which was my only pet hate with it.

Don't forget the night wash, they elliminats the interm spins and does really high rinses!

Balancing is good. The machine will spin don't spit their dummy if theres abit of movement in the drum, normally they correct 2 or 3 times under severe oob situations, but the good thing is they normally drop the revs abit to allow things to drop then pick back up again, this usually corrects the imbalance and the spin commences!

Rinsing is normally a 900rpm spin after the wash, 3 low rinses with 1200rpm spins in between on the 1600rpm model.

However, if you select synethetics or quick wash on cottons, you get 2 high level rinses, and if you select extra rinse you'll get a 3rd. Don't know if the current ones do the distribution fills, i think they do.

The zanussis are abit noisier than aeg's, can you remember hearing my mums aeg? Mums model uses the same DC motor as the XC zanussis of the time.

Generally well built! I will be getting one soon enough!

Electrolux/Zanussi machines still have a nice feel of quality about them. No cheap, flimsy parts like you get on Indesits.

My only concern is the welded outer tubs, but that's becoming the norm on todays lower/mid range machines.

Thanks for your messages guys, that is really helpful. I get the impression that Zanussi is a good mid range value for money machine.

This one has an invertor motor so should be nice and quiet. Whether I get it or not depends on our holiday. If the holiday is on I won't be able to afford it yet. If it is off (which in a way I hope it is because where we are going can be boring) then I may well get this machine. I can also ebay the Whirlpool to get some money before it gets too old.

I must do a video of the Whirlpool before it goes.

What's the difference between AEG and Zanussi

Hi guys thanks for your comments.

At lunchtime I was looking at the AEG machines. Luckily they were switched on and I could play with them. Quite fun but a bit complicated and obviously more expensive.

What's the difference between the two machines? They are both made by Electrolux.

 
Very little rob, the controls and layout are all to suit the current circuit boards, the aeg's are generally a little better built than the zanussi's for the price they ought to be!! the cool thing about the aeg's is most of them, i think all of them now have the sensitive button! so you can get half way up the door rinsing!

i wasn't saying anything bad about there build quality, i know zanussi are well made machines, i just simply prefare the look of the servis, and who knows the servis i get may be a good one coming from the factory and may go on on on without any problems, however when i get it if it breaks within the first month, then ill take all teh told you so's and bad comments in the world, but until then. watch this space!
