Wouldn't The Seals Have Dried Out On That DW By Now?

Always wondered about NIB vintage washing machines and dishwashers that have sat sitting for ages. Certainly the seals would have dried out and probably shrunk or otherwise become damaged from lack of moisture.

I'm assuming but..

Isn't there oil or something similar in the sumps of new dishwashers? One assumes there would have to be something to keep the seals from drying out in the warehouse and store, but water would sour and begin to smell (not good in the store), so I had always assumed they used some sort of oil, which also shouldnt really evaporate and dry up the way water would..

Dry Seals ?

Not likely modern vinyls, neoprene rubber etc do not deteriorate very fast even sitting dry and unused.  The replacement parts sit in boxes and bags for years and years and do not deteriorate.

Modern materials used in appliances last far longer, even refrigerator door seals seals if kept clean will last probably more than 50 years. We are way past the days of cork and plain rubber gaskets.

Well That Is Good To Hear

Though wished you had said sooner so one hadn't dragged out the Whirlpool portable on Saturday for a round of washing. Felt since it has been sit sitting for so long it needed a go to keep things in working order.

However the Hoover TT is another story, there a problem may lie and should take the old girl out for a spin.
