New LG Model: Full Size Washer/Dryer Combo

I was looking through the Sunday ads today and something caught my eye in the Best Buy ad. They had a segment featuring LG washer/dryers. The ad featured the 3.4 washer, the 3.7 washer and also "Full-size washer/dryer combo with 1100 RPM spin." No measurements are given, but I note that the 3.4 washer has 900 RPM spin while the 3.7 washer has 1100 rpm. This combo has the 1100 rpm spin.

Even if this combo is "only" 3.4 cubic foot, that is hugh compared to what most combo washer/dryers are. Still, I wonder if the drying action would be as quick compared to a regular dryer (which is say 7 cubic foot).

The listed price: $1,699.99. I am off work tomorrow. I will see if I can manage an first hand observation.

Washer/Dryer Combo

I have this combo unit the LG 3677. I paid less for mine $1550 plus tax and 5 year protection plan. It does dry faster and better than those smaller units. I used to have a Equator 3600 and that had very poor drying performance. In the LG I can wash 22 pounds and dry about 11 - 13 pounds. It's still a longer drying cycle but much better than a compact. Downside to this machine is washing times are long as the machine takes awhile to balance before spinning load. It is well built and has a spray system that operatates while clothes are being washed and rinsed.
Being you are looking for a new washer did you consider the LG?

Considered LG

Yes, I did consider LG. I spent a full day 1-1/2 months ago going from store to store (Best Buy, Sears, Lowes, and Frys). I ended up buying the (Samsung)Neptune. Two reasons: I wanted to get the very biggest capacity I could get (3.81 vs LG's 3.7) and I loved the look of the Neptune.

I made that purchase and turns out it didn't work out so well. Don't think that Neptune's are bad machines (cleaning results are excellent and machine is a good value for price/features). I had two service calls and there were still unresolved issues (bad unbalanced spinning). Lowes agreed to allow me to return the machine. Since I would be getting a different machine anyway, I decided to opt for a Whirlpool product and I purchased the Kitchenaid FL. The worst feature with the Neptune is its lack of quiet, the water pump is one loud baby (I should know I had to have the original pump replaced and the second unit was not a whole lot quieter). That made me focus on either Kitchenaid (which bills its front loader as its quietest washer) or Bosch. I was impressed with Bosch, but from what I can tell, I think they have taken the usage of water down to a new lower level, which in my mind was maybe not a great thing.

Back to your machine, which size drum does it have? I assume as it is billed as "full size" it is either 3.4 or 3.7. Interesting point about the drying time. It makes sense if you have half the size of a regular drying drum, that it will take extra time to dry clothes. Another question, does your machine have an internal water heater? Obviously it has a dryer built into it, but I was curious if they are able to heat the water. When you have two loads of clothes to wash, what is the wait time between starting the first and second loads?

Stay away from the Bosch. My friend is a manager a PC Richards, and claims, customers claim the Bosch does not clean as well. He claims the LG's are his top selling front load machine and have had very very problems, and no returns to the store. I have the LG WM2032HW, which has an internal heater only for the Sanitary Cycle and love this machine. Did you want single units or a Combo. LG also makes a Combo. Washer/Dryer

Hi Frontload Fan - to try and answer a few questions I have the full size 3.7 cubic foot drum. A lot of times I fill it up and empty some clothes out at the start of the drying cycle. I do hang dry a lot of laundry anyway. So a combo works good for me. I mostly dry linens like sheets and towels. Most clothes I wear I hang to dry anyway. I do have a heater but it only works in the sanatary cycle and drying of course. The wash time is long if I run a regular cycle with a extra rinse it takes about 70 minutes to wash rinse spin. Drying time varies one set of sheets drys in about 35 minutes. I can wash about 3 sets at a time (queen size that is). I never tried to leave all 3 sets in to dry at one time. Towels take the longest 8 bath towels can take up to 1 1/2 hours. Give or take some time. This combo is almost exactly like the LG washers in store except it has a dryer feature. It is a good machine to consider.

My LG Combo is 110 volt. It would be nice if they made 220 volt like they used to years ago. Only 1 combo the Edgestar comes in 220 volt. I can only have 110 volt in my coop in NY anyway. But options would be nice. The unit has a condensor so it is the same hookup as a regular washer. It does dry somewhat quicker than a small combo because the drum is bigger.
