New line of appliances from GE

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

And I like it! The designer/spokesperson would have done better to have his tie knotted correctly, though. Selling appliances, more customers than not complained about electronic controls.

I'd like to see what cycles/rack configuration the dishwasher has. A very cool idea for an appliance line; affordable, with---for those who prefer them---analog controls! If the line is successful, maybe a laundry pair will be added.[this post was last edited: 6/26/2013-17:40]

I know he says this is a modern design but he was definitely influenced by retro styling. I agree about the tie Ptcruiser, it was annoying watching the video with his tie like that.

Boomer here too

I like the look of these new appliances by GE. It looks like what we grew up with and still fits today's kitchens. Good idea, I just hope they will last like the ones of the 50's and 60's. Gary

LOL, he probably never wears a tie on the job...

I agree the appliances look nice and simple while still being elegant. I'm hoping the quality behind the looks is there as well, and not for a steep price. I am sort of wondering if the electric range has a self-cleaning oven, though. Didn't see any sort of controls for that. Gas, well, I understand self cleaning for a gas oven is a debatable achievement even in the best.

I like the fridge - it's almost a Euro type of dimension, designed to fit into smaller kitchens. I like the handles but I wonder if they might get in the way if the fridge is put into a corner location. One of my pet peeves about my current SXS KA fridge is that with the fridge door blocked to the right by a wall, it's impossible to remove the crisper bins, because the shelving on the door blocks it. I would prefer that KA adopted what used to be Amana's idea: the lower bin(s) were opposite flat door walls with no shelving in that area. This way the criper bins can be removed and cleaned without having to reposition the whole fridge. The other advantage to this would be that the bins can be made longer, because they'll be able to use the room that normally would be occupied by a door shelf. On my fridge the lower door shelving is sort of wasted, anyway. Stuff put there rarely gets used, it's like a graveyard for old bottles of oyster sauce/mustard/relish/condiments/etc.

But anyway, a good move for GE, and a bit surprising considering their sketchy record on home appliances for the past couple of decades.

the tie didn't bother me...very interesting and surprised that GE is stepping forward with this...still like vintage stuff better, but this Artistry line..is a start. Like the frig...will be visiting a showroom to see these in poi-sun.

I hope

that the ovens are self-cleaning, it would be an annoying step backward if they were not.

I liked the fact that his tie was at half-mast. Made me THINK about doing things with him.

Hope the appliances are better built than today's chromium and plastic.

That does look like a nicely designed line of appliances, I like everything being analog.
However the one thing I don't like is the cook top controls being in the front of the range, I much prefer rear controls

Someone Finally Gets It --

Analog controls are easier than pressing multiple buttons.

I hope this concept takes hold with all manufacturers.

I like these - particularly in white. If I was looking for something new I would consider them.

I agree - analog controls are so much easier to use...it's funny how things sometimes go full circle over a period of time. Look at record albums - they were all but dead and gone and now artists are releasing their new work on LPs once again.

Maybe analog is the new black!

Do you guys think GE took a small clue from Whirlpool's Ice Collection where the colors of the appliances a basic black or white with stainless steel accents???? Hmmmmmm????

The unbuttoned shirt and loose tie is the "in" look this year, for whatever reason. I'm less bothered about that than his droning, nasal monotone...lol.

I'd like the fridge and stove handles better if they were bright chrome instead of bushed, but otherwise, nice job.

I guess because these were designed by a "millennial" for "millennials" and I'm way too old to be a "millennial" (whatever that is) I don't like these things at all. They look like stuff that a cheap landlord would put in a rental. The stove it the worst...I love analog clocks but that one looks like it should say Timex on the face. You probably have to pull the range out from the wall to replace the AA battery. I'd say bah humbug to these GE's if it was December.

... these will be pricy...

Well, according to CNet, the entire suite (fridge, d/w, range, m/w oven) will be priced under $2500. Which is not pricey but not BOL pricing, either. More like MOL.

I like the set but I would require an ice maker and chilled filtered fresh water capacity for the fridge. But the fridge looks like it wouldn't fit well in my kitchen anyway. Nor would the range (cooktop/wall oven).

He could probably use one of those vintage turn of the century (19th-20th) separate collars... much easier to get a bigger collar than a new shirt, just because one has added an inch or two to the neck circumference...

Or maybe one of those tuxedo t-shirts.

That line of appliances may have some appeal to OLDER customers as well who don't like digital controls.A concern of safety for the stove,though-the front controls would be too tempting for children.Didn't new safety standards require the knobs or other controls to be out of childrens reach? I don't have kids-but some owners of these may.
The mans dress looked RIDICULOUS to me-ditch the tie and coat. The striped tie was too much.

The Clock

Joe, it didn't even occur to me, but I think you are absolutely right.  That cheap looking stove clock has got to be battery operated.  There's no such thing as an analog clock with an electric motor manufactured anymore.  Sad, considering the history GE shared with Telechron for all those decades.

Too plain for my taste... I would love to see some appliances with "nice lines". Wonder what Frank Lloyd Wright would have come up with. I certainly would not do a double take if I saw them in the store. I did like the G.E. logo.

Pet Peeve

Wish they had taken the time in preparing the set for this video to reverse the doors on the fridge to match the kitchen layout better. Makes me crazy when people don't take the time to do that; they just put the fridge in place, with the factory-set configuration of hinges on the right.

Also, several of you have commented on the front controls. Gas ranges always have controls on the front; at least that's all I've seen. Electrics have them on the rear panel, unless it is a drop-in or slide-in range, which do have front controls because there is no rear panel.

Spartan

If the guy in the suit is a designer...neither he or the suit sold me on the appliances. Reminds me of suiting up for work in the 80's. Relax, GE ...let the guy put on some jeans and a casual shirt. It doesn't remind me of "Mad Men".

The logo is great, but the designs are intended to work into retro and new kitchens - but my first impression was .."too spartan and not really interesting".

This is the Artistry line. I like their GE logo, but where's the artistry?

It is odd to see the controls on a free-standing electric range at the front but the simple look is clean and appealing. I also agree that without a self-cleaning oven, these are builder grade BOL ranges that would have limited appeal with few others besides slumlords and FEMA trailers.

I do like the horizontal handles on the refrigerator and the logo-medallion on the door.
