New Maytag A806 Series 1

Hi,

Dave (VolvoGuy87) and I just picked up an A806 (Finally, a lighted console!) in northern Kentucky for $25, and the owner is going to contact us when she's getting rid of the matching dryer. There may be an issue with the timer. Dave's in the basement working on it right now. I'm curious as to the year though, and I searched the site and couldn't find dating info. The letters at the end of the serial# are "WH."

Dave just came upstairs and wanted to point out some odd points about the washer. First, it's a series 1 with gold trim, late style dials, model number plate in the back, as opposed to the lid, and a lighted tub. The dryer is also a HOH DE806, with gold trim. The timer motor on the washer is disconnected and believed to be bad, and the safety switch has been bypassed (At least that means we can feel the breeze when testing the spin cycle).

Sorry about the delay, we had a small issue (Sewage line backed up). Pics very soon (Not of sewage!).

The good news is the washer passed the water test. It holds water, agitates, drains, and spins. It is very quiet while running, and nothing beats the lights. The lid switch is either disabled or broken, so we cannot test the tub light yet.

Anyone know what timer motor the series 1 uses? It has the metal dial with the clear plastic knob. Next step, does anyone have a spare timer motor?

The matching dryer did not come with the washer... yet! We do want it, however, whenever the owner wishes to part with it. I have never seen an HoH with gold trim.

Until the timer motor is replaced, here it shall sit. On the left is our A206 which really needs to be taken apart at some point to change the transmission oil. Anyone know how to do that or want to help?

I like it in Cincinnati. This is Elginkid's house, it's a restoration work in progress. I am trying to find a job here so I can stay, but am having no luck thus far.

Wes swore he would never have a "washer basement" like I wanted but the 806 is 100% his. Insert evil laugh here! Now if I could only convince him to let me install the beautiful Hobart Kitchenaid Supurba 21 series dishwasher I have in the basement. He hates dishwashers under all conditions, but then again, he swore never to have a washer basement too...

Kingston or Mallory timer? Will need the number after the - of the timer part#. All 806's with Permanent Press, without Suds saver will be 204499. I need the # after the last digit. Also, I need to know if the escapement is prior or has the bland band around it. Example: A Mallory timer prior to blue band escapement with timer # 204499-1 would take timer motor 203081.

Would love to help you out, but you're kinda far away
I did a rather lengthy post a month or so back about tackling this. If I were you, I would change out the small tub/trans and install a deep tub/trans. Swap a 606 or similar 4 level water valve console w/ the capability of a 2 speed motor, and you've got a hell of a nice sleeper.

From the AMP up until 1975. My 1975 806 made in October has the tag under the lid. So, sometime between May and Oct, Maytag changed the location. One of these days we'll be able to narrow it down the month.

Timer.

The timer motor was detached when we got the machine, but it is a Kingston Model 60. Anyone here have a spare or know where I can get one? I fear this part might be NLA. Would another timer motor be substitutable? We would like to use the 806 until I can change the transmission oil in the 206.

Well, the narrows it down somewhat.

If the timer indicates 204499, timer motor is 204663

If the timer indicates 204499-2, timer motor is 205033

204663 is currently available on ebay.
