New Maytag top loaders!!!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Notice in the specs that it does NOT have "Auto Load Size Sensing Technology."

Also notice that the hoses are not included. That way if the hoses ever cause a leak or a flood which causes damage, Whirlpool is not responsible.

I caught the "hoses not included" bit the other night at the Home Depot. I thought it was either the manufacturer getting cheap (think printers with no cable) or they were giving the accessory sale to HD. I didn't consider liability, although somehow I'd think there is a disclaimer somewhere in the fine print, no?

These have been out for some time. WhirlTag changed the design of the control knobs - Whirlpool has all-black knobs now. Some (of the wash plate) top loaders also come with a dedicated Deep Water Wash cycle that is no longer part of the Heavy Duty cycle.

Pictures are up on Whirlpool's Digital Library.

Well...

After looking through the website, I am not really impressed. Looks like a minor cosmetic change. Nothing special. Am I missing something?

"Notice in the specs that it does NOT have "Auto Load Size Sensing Technology"

Yet, in the operator manual it states: "Sensing This washer will perform a series of spins to check for load balance. During this time, a series of clicks
and a whirring noise signal that sensing technology is determining if there is an off-balance load."

This is just another Whirlpool belt drive VMW piece of junk

It has a manual water level adjustment knob on the machine, pan and zoom, and you can see it! Speed Queen is the ONLY brand of top loader that comes with inlet hoses now.
This Maytag control panel has new knobs as previously mentioned, but a few different cycles as well, and different rinse selections, it is new to the US market. Can't someone just like the way a washer looks??? LOL

plus...............

it has a soil selection knob to adjust wash time.......Sorry forgot to put that in my last post.

Argggghhh

I have always been mad that they market Maytag appliances like they are actually made by Maytag but now I see they are also using Maytag advertising from back before they closed and they are also taking pictures of those crappy suspension rods to try and make it look like the washer is a classic dependable Maytag...HAHAHA!

The DependableClean wash system was used in advertising for Maytag washers back when I bought my Maytag Performa and I see they are still advertising that as if it even exists, you wont see that advertised on that particular washer but on the more basic models its there.

Also the ''wrinkle control'' cycle was invented by Maytag so more people would use that cycle since most people never used the permanent press cycle on top load washers which is what the Wrinkle Free cycle is.

The LoadFlex agitator advertising was yet another name invented by Maytag for the agitators in the Atlantis/Performa/Legacy series washers. Instead, this is actually a triple roll action agitator by Whirlpool in the Centennial washers, I think they should AT LEAST design a different agitator for Maytag washers.

I mean for god sake's Whirlpool is probably one of the most wealthy appliance company's out there don't you think they could create a bit of a different design for washers that are supposedly more dependable instead of using ALL Whirlpool designed washers full of parts that could be found in ALL of Whirlpool, Kenmore, Amana, Inglis, Roper, Estate and Crosley washers! Come on Whirlpool, Maytag is supposed to be better than the rest not a Fancy silver/stainless steel control panel with the Maytag emblem stuck on it.

I expected ALLOT more and allot better from you Whirlpool! Ever since they took over Maytag the only good thing they ever did was use a stainless steel tub in a direct drive washer with the Maytag name on it.

At first I was sad when I heard the news on Whirlpool buying out Maytag but I thought it might of been for the better, I thought they might come up with some more dependable washer designs that had there own parts...not complete Whirlpool washer designs with the Maytag logo stuck on it, talk about a disappointment!

Oh

And the soil selection knob was yet another feature created by the real Maytag, personally I don't think its fair they get to take Maytag's advertising... if they wanna use a crappy washer design with all Whirlpool parts they should come up with their own advertising instead of just being lazy and using the same old same old. This is a screenshot from a manual for the MAV5920EWW washer, a washer made from Maytag before they closed...as you can see it has the fake soil selection knob that just changed the speeds, wonder what it does on the new Whirlpool/Maytag version?

I believe that load size sensing is something entirely different from load balance sensing. The first determines the water level and the second determines if the load is balanced enough to go into spin speed.

Why should WP be expected to create something different for Maytag? Maytag did not create something different for decades. True, they adopted the dual action agitator that WP created as soon as the patents allowed and they increased the size of the tub opening to make it look larger, but they did nothing like invent a Design 2000 Direct Drive washer like WP did. To be able to have a truly large capacity washer, Maytag went and bought Norge and did nothing to improve that line. The Maytag top loader machines had nothing to offer that was modern or highly efficient. WP was the company that did the research and started evolving top loaders with the Collapso, Resource Saver and similar technologies. WP had the technologies to offer to Maytag. Maytag had a name coupled with a steadily diminishing reputation and market share. Why, in an increasingly tight market for toploaders, should WP go back and attempt to reinvent the wheel? Top loaders are not the future of laundry appliances given the increasingly tight water restrictions, even if ever-growing parts of the world are going to be under water as the glaciers melt and sea levels rise.

Soil level settings........................

adjust the amount of wash time...ie. Heavy Soil = 14 minute wash, Normal Soil = 10 minute wash. The machine you showed was not built by Maytag per say, but a NORGE designed washer which was the downfall of the MAYTAG Corp. The Soil selector knob aon the washer you showed also adjusts wash time not speeds, as you can see on the cycle selector knob, the speeds are already predetermined by your cycle selection. I think this machine is going to appeal to alot of consumers. I know that the 3.6 cu ft wash tub can only effectively was the same load as a 3.0, but I think this is how manufacturers are getting around water restrictions...larger tub uses less water, when it actually is the same tub produced all along, washing the same size loads all along! Sear Kenmore 3.0 wash 16 bath towels in one load!! Remember that advertising.

Looks great imo, until you pop the hood. The corkscrew shredder agitator is a deal breaker for me. Yes I know everyone uses them now (except SQ).

Well,

I thought they bought Maytag to improve the product line, not to slap a name on a Direct Drive washer, sure they were dependable but they were not anything more than a Direct Drive washer, a washer that is seen in 1 out of 2-3 homes in america!

I just think they should make some kind of washer that is just for Maytag...whether it be top load, front load or HE Top Load, just something to actually make the products worth the money.

I know Maytag's products were not very good quality when they closed but with a little improvements I think they could have kept many of Maytag's line of appliances on the market.

Like the Maytag Neptune and Neptune TL for example, sure they didn't always last a long time but with a little improvements from Whirlpool I think they would have been an ok design, after all at least they were not a Whirlpool design like almost every appliance on the market in the us. Why would a person buy a Maytag when they could just buy a Whirlpool...

Why would a person buy a Maytag when they could just buy a Whirlpool...
Because the typical consumer doesn't understand about the mechanicals ... i.e. that the mechanisms are now the same for both brands (and currently or in the past -- Admiral, Amana, Inglis, Estate, Roper, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Kirkland).

A friend has/had an early 2000s Kenmore pair. The dryer originally had the skid-type idler. A problem developed with it, he called for service. The assigned service tech replaced the idler and belt or whatever was involved, explained to him about the skid idler and subsequent revision back to pulley-idler. He was "outraged" and swore he'd never buy another Kenmore appliance. Well, he hasn't. When the washer went down three years ago (I don't know the details of what was the problem with it), he bought a ... ta da! ... Maytag. He didn't recognize that the mechanicals are the same as his previous Kenmore, didn't quite know what to say when I brought that to his attention last year, LOL. He still has the dryer far as I know.
