New Maytag wringer washer agitator

Ordered this new one cuz the splines on my old one were waring out.
New one fits nice but is absent the weap hole that old one has.
Haven’t tried it yet..
Maybe I drilled a hole in old one years back and don’t remember?
Any reason I should or shouldn’t drill a hole?
Leave well enough alone?

I think the hole is meant to prevent a suction lock that could make the agitator difficult to remove.

Keep in mind, if you do decide you want to drill a hole, it's situated on the OUTSIDE of the inner ring. That ring creates an air-lock so that water is prevented from accessing the drive shaft and seal.

How’s ur model 30 with pump doing?
I see where the hole is on my old one. Just cant remember what it’s for and why the new one doesn’t have a hole.
My Maytag is a 1954 model and I believe it had a red or black agitator when new.
The one I’ve had is stamped Maytag..but has plastic splines that have worn.
I purchased new spline to replace, but then realized there’d be no way to get old splines out without breaking agitator.
(Reason for buying a new aftermarket agitator)
Now that I have a new one, I may attempt replacing splines on the old one. (Back up)

Stan, don't forget to put a bit of Vaseline on the agitator post before you push the new agitator in place. It helps to release the agitator when finished washing. Thanks,  Gary

The little breather hole...

Stan, it is to allow the excess air under the agitator to escape, but the ring keeps the air-lock over and around the drive shaft.

P.S. the Model 30WP and the 32 are both running beautifully, as is the E2LP. I try to rotate them on different washdays to keep everything running smoothly. But I must admit I love using the 30WP. The 32 is gravity drain, so if I want a bit of a workout hauling buckets of water, I use it!

I see why one would gravitate to the 30 with pump. It’s a beautiful machine and rare to come across.
I almost got one a couple years back but seller flaked on me.
So I’ve run my machine with this new agitator and it’s seems perfect without drilling a breather hole.
Didnt float off and I was able to remove when finished.
