Miele just launched a new top version of its W1 series now in September.

This features all touch operations and improved energy efficiency. It can also connect to a wireless network, and you can operate it from apps on your tablet or smartphone

I have found this article in french about the new model:
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/lave-l...iele-decline-en-version-connectee-n35893.html

I'm interested in the current top model, but I was not aware of this new top model.... what do you guys think? Maybe there are other improvements in this new Prestige model?

Take look at the picture. The new Prestige is in the middle. The "old" top model is to the right. And the dryer to the left.

This has already been discussed here:

I think

That the touch screen looks like it came from an old Nokia.
The graphics are Blah. Hardly an improvement on the old.
I have to say the Samsung touchscreen washing machine looks far easier to use.
Perhaps its to encourage one to use an ipad.

The next machine down looks a far better bet.

I think the exact opposite. Maybe the Android UI on the Samsung is more intuitive, yet, some major design flaws would make me prefer the Miele (No detergent drawer, awful long cycles, no option to prewash and wash with powder etc.).
The graphics are typical Miele-Style. And I think this way the machine is way easier to use than the ones with 1 or 3 line displays.

With the oven, they really tried

Gosh, they even managed incorporate a sideways swiping motion.

The thing that gets me about the W1 Prestige screen is you have to remember what is selected previously and if you wanted to prewash then you'd have to find it via another screen.

Why do they group options into 2 groups (Options and Prog. Manager)
Surely what comes under both should be grouped into one screen. I don't see how the options of Extra Quiet, Intensive... are any different to the option of Short, Water plus, pre-wash.

I wonder if the options lead to extra energy being consumed so are "hidden" so the machine earns extra energy stars.

Maybe Samsung did away with the drawer as it seems to be a source of noise and mould (Some people never clean the top of the dispenser). The aqua pebble is not a good compromise.

I did create a thread all ready about these, cheers Logixx for the link :)

I generally like these Miele's, and can't wait to see them launched! (they're essentially the modern version of the Supertronic 5000, with loads of handy W1 features added, and of course, touch screen)

Grouping.

While Water Plus, Short and Prewash only change simple programm prameters (water level, wash time) or add/substract whole cycle steps (extra rinse, pre wash), the PM options change the whole basic cycle. They add/substract cycle steps, change drum speeds, water temperatures and can desuit cycles for certain textiles.
For example, a normal cotton 40° would fit a load of jeans and darks, no matter if water plus is selected or not. Yet, if I add Allergy, the steam phase could cause damage. Or Intensive could fade colors excessivly.

Grouping vs Options overload (The smorgasbord of choice)

There is a subtlety to this that I don't understand.

I can choose Cottons and Allergy or Cottons and Intensive but I would need another menu step (Similarly if I were to use the push button machine I would push the program manager button to access these options)

I see that they are also trying to emulate how the push button machine works with their touch screen system in that the groping of options are essentially the same. (Program Manager options and Options are relatively the same excepting Stains)
If you are doing a touchscreen then why not do things differently?

Do you think the groupings of options came about because of the frequency of use (and therefore they bothered to give it a special button like Water+ ).

I don't think these groupings came about through the protection of laundry because you can't select certain items if they are deemed damaging.

Here is a video of a Samsung washing machines touchscreen. Not the best but what I like is the use of swipe and you can see it all at a glance. (Oh and colour too. How luxurious)
