This was at a Supermarket here in town.  Not the same box as the other.  Not a bad price either.  80 loads and HE too.

Nice! What supermarket?

Do they have an internet site to purchase from also?
It looked hard to be find! I tried to get it online,  found liquid type only at Dollar tree!

Is that powder a formula HE/low foam?
Or it does have two kind Regular and HE?

Wished I'd find it somewhere to buy, looked around for it to try!

I would buy that if any of the markets here carried it.  Sadly, few of them allow much shelf space for powders anymore.  My only reliable source for powdered HE is Target, and the choices there are limited to Tide and Gain.

It's available at Food City stores in this area, not that it will do most of you any good. They also have a new Biz that advertises itself as being multipurpose - laundry, floor cleaner, dessert topping (okay just kidding about the dessert topping).

The Oxydol ingredients list enzymes but don't mention oxygen bleach, which seems a bit strange.

The "old" powder Oxydol (2000-2009 or so) produced very little suds and I think it would have worked well in a front loader.

I'm glad an  historical  brand like this is finally being brought alive again!
This is what i could read in their facebook page, they're trying to spread the brand country wide again!

Glad it is not another brand that went into hands of Phoenix Brands!
Even if originally was a P&G brand is nice to support another manufacturer in this attempt,  and CR brands made good stuff...

I think the "original" box shown on their page has been off the shelves for several years, btw. It was always my favorite. I thought it cleaned about as well as Tide With Bleach.

This will be my next detergent order, I'm currently full of detergents I could last months without buying some....

Also I just purchased a "stock" of detergents arrived this eveing from a clearance of a  supply website in Italy as they offered a really interesting price....
The Xonda powder is a detergent I didn't see around for awhile....so I wanted to get some again.

3 of 2kg bags

and 2 of 7kg...

15 euros...

no bad! Almost a gift!

I wonder who owns the brand now? I wonder if it is like so many old names that are now owned by another company putting out a totally different formula with the name Oxydol. I remember how good the old formula smelled, but can't imagine what they could put in it to make it HE or how well it would work without phosphates.

Oxydol from Facebook rep.
My Question:

Hello, my name is Federico and I'm trying to get in Italy the Oxydol powder, the one in the Green box original scent, do you still make it?
I can see most of the Oxydol powders online are HE formula, well I don't like HE powders and machines....
I'd just like to get the normal sudsing formula or something similar, can you please suggest me where I can find american online store from which I can purchase the powder using a discount coupon?
Thank you!

Response:

Thank you Federico. The Oxydol powder displays the HE symbol to ensure HE machine owners it can be used in those types of machines but the formula has not changed. There are instructions for HE users to use less due to using less water. Visit www.Alice.com and look for the 100oz. Oxydol Powder with Biz Stain Fighter. That is the closest we have to the original formula that was acquired from P&G in 2000. Thank you for your interest in Oxydol

They Also....

....Make a "Classic One-Cup Formula," which I'm currently buying from Family Dollar, five bucks for a ginormous box.

Works very well. Whites get dosed with Sun Oxy in addition to the Oxydol, and come out blindingly white. I wash all whites in hot.

Machine is a late-'70s Maytag 806. I found a one-cup measure and a one-third cup measure in a thrift, and I dose as follows:

(Water Level)

Small - One-third cup
Medium - Two-thirds cup
Large - One cup
Extra Large - One and one-third cup

I also use Oxydol Liquid for darks I don't want powder streaks on, as well as anything that should get washed in cold water. This is also a good product.

Fabric softener is liquid Sun Cuddle Fresh, in the Mountain Fresh scent, used in the softener cup of the Maytag. These products leave my clothes clean, and free of what I call the "P & G Fruity/Floral Reek."

I do not use the Oxydol formulation shown in the top photos. The scent is advertised on the box as the "Smells So Good" formula. It doesn't, at least not to me.

Freddy:

Yes, that is it.

I will be going to that shop in the next week or two; I will purchase an extra box. We can then figure out how to get it to Valenza.

P.S.: The scent is not the same as Oxydol from the 1950s and 1960s. That product had a very distinct fragrance, very chemical and no-nonsense.

My grandmother used it, and you could not ask for cleaner clothes. In those days, the town they lived in (East Point, GA) was very polluted from trains passing through, and the collar of a white shirt would get an ugly black ring (from soot) when worn.

But my grandmother saw to it that my grandfather's white shirts never showed this problem - she pre-treated with original liquid Wisk, and then washed in Oxydol, Clorox and scalding hot water, in a Kenmore wringer washer. She did not get her first automatic until 1967 or so, when she treated herself to a Kenmore 800 pair. My Aunt Margie still has the 800 dryer *.

Dirt and germs were doomed, let me tell you.

* No, it's not available. When the time comes (and I hope it's a very long time; Aunt Margie is great), it's willed to me.

Smells So Good

I have purchased this from Alice.Com and have used it with good results. I just add a tad of STPP for whites and use hot water. Wash darks in it with no streaking. Smell is very faint (to me) and not unpleasant. Maybe because I always do a vinegar rinse instead of fabric softener.

Somehow I just envision Mrs. Kramden packaging my order lovingly...

I am using the current version in the box that Westie2 pictured and have been pleased with it. For measuring, I use a small scoop that came with a previous bucket of Sears Ultra Plus detergent: one level scoop in the Frigemore front loader. At that dose, it cleans well and doesn't make many suds (it's much better than Tide HE powder in that regard). Plus, it didn't cost much ($4.99 on sale) and seems to last a long time.

The Weis supermarkets here had been carrying it for a few years, but when I was there recently, it was gone. I might have to go back to the Sears detergent when I run out.

I believe I read that CR Brands was the spinoff from P&G to one of the laundry product managers of the Oxydol/Biz formulae and trademarks. It was kind of an "excellent adventure" from what I read...the manager was kind of entrepreneurial. they may have had a supply contract w/P&G for awhile (it probably has expired and they're using Huish or another contract packer for it now). Looks from the website they took over the Mean Green company of Spartanburg, SC (which may a long time ago have been the Texize business before it was bought by Dow).

Freddy
