Freddy:

Yes, that is it.

I will be going to that shop in the next week or two; I will purchase an extra box. We can then figure out how to get it to Valenza.

P.S.: The scent is not the same as Oxydol from the 1950s and 1960s. That product had a very distinct fragrance, very chemical and no-nonsense.

My grandmother used it, and you could not ask for cleaner clothes. In those days, the town they lived in (East Point, GA) was very polluted from trains passing through, and the collar of a white shirt would get an ugly black ring (from soot) when worn.

But my grandmother saw to it that my grandfather's white shirts never showed this problem - she pre-treated with original liquid Wisk, and then washed in Oxydol, Clorox and scalding hot water, in a Kenmore wringer washer. She did not get her first automatic until 1967 or so, when she treated herself to a Kenmore 800 pair. My Aunt Margie still has the 800 dryer *.

Dirt and germs were doomed, let me tell you.

* No, it's not available. When the time comes (and I hope it's a very long time; Aunt Margie is great), it's willed to me.

Smells So Good

I have purchased this from Alice.Com and have used it with good results. I just add a tad of STPP for whites and use hot water. Wash darks in it with no streaking. Smell is very faint (to me) and not unpleasant. Maybe because I always do a vinegar rinse instead of fabric softener.

Somehow I just envision Mrs. Kramden packaging my order lovingly...

I am using the current version in the box that Westie2 pictured and have been pleased with it. For measuring, I use a small scoop that came with a previous bucket of Sears Ultra Plus detergent: one level scoop in the Frigemore front loader. At that dose, it cleans well and doesn't make many suds (it's much better than Tide HE powder in that regard). Plus, it didn't cost much ($4.99 on sale) and seems to last a long time.

The Weis supermarkets here had been carrying it for a few years, but when I was there recently, it was gone. I might have to go back to the Sears detergent when I run out.

I believe I read that CR Brands was the spinoff from P&G to one of the laundry product managers of the Oxydol/Biz formulae and trademarks. It was kind of an "excellent adventure" from what I read...the manager was kind of entrepreneurial. they may have had a supply contract w/P&G for awhile (it probably has expired and they're using Huish or another contract packer for it now). Looks from the website they took over the Mean Green company of Spartanburg, SC (which may a long time ago have been the Texize business before it was bought by Dow).

In memphis we have the larger boxes at Family Dollar here if you want more I can get it for you.Westie2 how far are you from Memphis? I would like to have some of that Oxydol may have to make a road trip to get some. Carl

Memphis to Siloam Springs

It is almost a 6 hour drive Siloam Springs is in far Northwest Arkansas on the state line with Oklahoma.  This Oxydol was at Harps Food Store here and they may have it in their Jonesboro, Ark store.

There are several store that might be closer to you might be worth a call to one.

Hi Freddy that is the one that we have here I will get you one for the next swap.I am trying to get the one that Westy gets I am going to check in Jonesboro store to see if they have it.Things are ok. Carl

I too am using the same version of Oxydol that Sandy currently has in usage.  It has been a good performer for me so far.  I add 2tbsp of STPP, ½cup 20 Mule Team Borax, ½cup BIZ, and 1 ½cups of Oxydol for an XL size load.  For the rinse it's a ½ capful of Suavitel "Field Flowers" softener.  I picked the Oxydol up on a whim when I was at Family Dollar a week ago.  I hope they keep it in stock for awhile because really I'm liking it, and even the scent isn't too cloying.

Charles:

You beat me to the punch on this. I was at Price Cutter here in Springfield last night looking for Wisk, when I stumbled across this. The price their asking for it is either 4.48 or 4.84. I may give it a try after I use up the rest of the horrid Sears Ultra-Plus powder I have on hand.

I know Dollar Tree has the liquid Oxydol.

Bill glad you did.  That Price Cutter is part of Harp's.  I bought a box yesterday and so far 2 loads done.  I think right now it is a winner.  Have FL and by final rinse water was clear.

I don't quite understand the purpose behind putting an old name on a detergent that has no similarity to the old product. Granted, it was a good name for a product that had oxygen bleach in it, but as for a relation to the old product, the new stuff could be called pig polish and work just as well on laundry. I'm not saying it is not a good product, but its quality is beside the point. I just don't see why they are using the old name "Oxydol" for a new detergent. As for the Oxydol "classic," if it does not have the green specks in it, how can it be called "classic?" Back in its time, a detergent containing oxygen bleach was novel, as was oxygen bleach, but now not so much. I guess what I am trying to say is that a brand like Tide is still owned by P&G and this new Oxydol, like some other brands, was discontinued by its original manufacturer and now is sort of like a red herring, attracting you with a classic name, yet delivering something else.

Hi Freddy if I go to Jonesboro it will be for a day tripI will go to the thrift stores make a day of it I go to estate sale up there all the time just some where different.Carl Westie thank you for the information I will call them.

The Liquid....

....Works fine for me, but I don't particularly value sudsing. I use it for darks and brights that need cold-water washing to keep looking new. I have had no issues in use; it does exactly what it says it will, and it leaves clothes smelling good.

You have to remember that the sudsing of old detergent formulas would be not just undesirable today, it would be harmful to many of today's machines. Very, very few users of this liquid would be using it in a wringer washer - it's formulated for today's machines.

Oxydol liquid

My experience is the same as Sandy's. It may not be great for heavy-duty cleaning, but for lightly soiled dark items it's an inexpensive choice that smells nice without being too strong.
