Now, what does the matching dryer look like and where will it be found?

I can sympathize with you on the home these came from. Once did carpet install in a house like that. Had to send 3 different crews of installers to complete the job because once there, they wouldn't go back. The house was owned by a REGISTERED NURSE!! Go figure.

Thanks so much for the fun presentation. Let us know how the restoration goes. Thankfully the mechanism still works well. Is this a solid tub machine, no, I do see the tub perforations, but is there an inner tub like in the AMPs? It appears to have a spin drain cycle, but so do the non-solid tub Filter-Flos and newer Maytags.

Another Philco saved!!

Jimmy what a nice find and we all know how much you like the philco's whats really nice is its found the perfect home to spend its remaining years another fine machine will be restored and preserved cant be many of those things left but if I ever run across one youll be the first to know
 
Hey Thanks Tim, you need to come over and play with some of these again! BTW, did you pick up all the new finds you recently bought? Maybe I need to come to your house this time and play! We could wash the clothes I was wearing when I picked up these Philcos......oh no, come to think of it I burned them!

I've never experienced a Philco, but I'm wild about them. The agitators and the water currents fascinate the b'Jesus out of me. And the jist I get is that you have MORE Philcos? You must have a ball with them.

I'm usually a light loader, but sometimes I bobload. Can the Philco hold and move the most clothes for that size tub?

What a great blue machine you have. I wish I could see it.
 
Bob, you'd love Blackie! Hes a baby!! When someone doesnt like cats, I usually mutter under my breath: Most rats dont! ahhahahh all kidding aside, "Bless the Beasts and the Children, For in this world, they have no voice, they have no choice...." ( That was from a Carpenters song and is SO true) I love all animals, like I said before they're babies!
 
Jimmy - what luck to actually find two Philcos in the same house, as putrid as it was..... Interesting that the washer is from that short period between the Philco-Bendix logo and the Philco-Ford logo. Probably a 64 or 65. The dryer is definitely a 63 - the matching washer is featured in a 1963 Tide advertisement. Can't wait to see the restoration.

And the cat is adorable!!

I just cannot believe how cruddy some stoves,micowaves,washers,and fridges are. Some people must not care about that sort of thing at all. YUK!!

Great washer. That is exactly the washer our neighbors had in the 70's! I used to babysit their 4 children for the summers. Of course cleaning their house was also part of the job. I LOVED using that washer. She did have to replace the flapilator once but the machine ran night and day! When her dryer quit (Sears Kenmore BOL) she traded the washer and dryer in on a new set of Frigidaire 1-18's. Bill Hall's appliance store in Clearwater Florida had a meter that they would put on your fridge. You had to put quarters in it to keep the fridge running! Once a month a guy would come around and collect the quarters, and that was the payment plan! She ended up getting the Frigidaire 1-18's, an RCA Color console, an RCA console stereo, a Frigidaire no frost freezer, a Frigidaire fridge with ice maker, a portable Frigidaire dishwasher, and 2 Frigidaire window shaker air conditioners on this plan! I remember a few times she came over and borrowed quarters to keep the fridge running!!! Mom would laugh and give her the quarters and just shake her head. Mark
 
Philco washers very rare

That washer is in good shape for the condition, in which you found it. It seems everyone else is finding all the unique brands of washing machines. I have been looking around here in Utah and I haven't found a unique automatic washer yet.

Jimmy, the rubber flapilator is what looks really gross! What is the rust discoloration on it? It looks evil, like from the X-Files. Ewwwww. Do you still have some NOS rubber for this lady?

Can't wait to see the closeups of the dryer. What a handsome design.

Mine go outside but Im in a fairly rural area with a woods behind my house that they love to hunt in. They love to romp and climb the trees, but only stay outside for a short while. Meowzer loves to watch my washers running, but then hes a special cat. How many do you have Ross? Meaning both Cats AND Washers?

Blackie is gorgeous. Reminds me of my little Lucky.

Some years ago when we lived in the city, my partner and I were away for the weekend. When we got home there were two tiny kittens on our doorstep. We adopted them and named them Millie (Tabby Female) and Lucky (black Male). When they were about one year old, Lucky escaped through a damaged flyscreen and was hit by a car. He was found by a ranger and delivered to the animal hospital. They phoned us to say he was found and alive but his condition was so bad they wanted our permission to put him down immediately. We asked if we could come to see him but they said he was really badly injured and it would be kinder to put him down straight away. We went straight in and collected his body, drove three hours to our land where we are now building, and buried him there. It is one of lifes odd twists that, sad as it is to have lost Lucky so early, had we not lost him we never would have gone to the Cat Protection Society and adopted our current rascal cat, Monty, who is one in a million.

The Philco is a gem too.

Remembrance of Things past

The more I see these Philco machines, the more impressed I am. They're colorful, fascinating to look at and I can only wonder how they worked. I assume the agitator bounced up and down like a GM Frigidaire, yes? The one that looked like a juke-box in Lightedcontrol's warehouse really blew me away. My last memories of Philco products were displayed in the front window of a store on the corner of First Avenue and Fourteenth Street in NYC, around 1968. I would wait for the bus uptown their and they always had a couple of Philco washers and dryers in the window. At the time I didn't have the balls to walk into the store to look at them having been convinced that my fascination with appliances was "strange".

Philco/Ford was a venerable maker of appliances. The auto makers really did some amazing work. What is it about this country that we just "divest" away our greatest assets and elevate trash to stellar heights?
