New Speed Queen Tub off center

I have had the new Speed Queen set for about 4 months and I am very happy with both the washer and dryer. The washer was leveled by the installer and also later by me as it did settle a bit. Right now it is very level. The tub is off center and has been that way since first installed, I just really didn't notice.

This photo is taken from directly above as close as I can get to perpendicular.

I can move the tub to center, but as soon as I spin it the tub moves to this position.

Maybe you know if this is normal. I opened the front and it seems like everything is ok in there. Should I call the dealer?

I think this is normal behavior for a Speed Queen. My AWN542 would go pretty far off center (to the front and right) during a cycle. I'd open the lid and it would be completely kattywampus.

My two day-old Series 9 top loader goes a bit off center, but nothing like the 542. About the same as yours, in fact.

If the machine is leveled properly and isn't having problems with unbalanced spins, I'd say don't worry about it.

Eugene is correct this is considered normal behavior. There is no adjustment on the centering springs, trying to correct this is likely to cause other problems.

Used clothes pin trick

I was reading Frigilux's "Speed Queen Experts Needed" and I saw the Clothes Pin trick. When I looked before I thought that the back panel prevented the Clothes Pin trick. However, I stuck my finger under there and sure enough, you can still do it. So now I can finally watch my SQ do it's cycles.

It does seem to operate correctly washing and spinning. I think it may have something to do with the geometry of the belt drive set-up. With the old Maytag the drive was directly in the center of the tub through the Helical screw and belt below. With the SQ, the off center drive may sway the whole tub over. Maybe they need a concrete block like GE had for the filter-flo.

I had spoke to speed queen about this before, it has more to do with the torque of the motor. I don't remember exactly the reason behind it but it made perfect sense when it was explained to me.

Again, it's perfectly normal operation.

And your case is mild. My Speed Queen when new used to lean to the front when off, and when agitating the tub would lean, and I mean LEAN to the extreme right front. Had it not been for this site, I would have absolutely assumed the machine was defective. Its gotten a bit better now that the machine has run for a few years, but leaning is still there. Just a quirk of these machines.
