Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Stacked

I thought about getting a stacked front loader set and then a top loader to go next to it. Best of both worlds. Or perhaps a stacked FL set and then leaving space for a vintage machine.

I need to find a house with a basement so I can build my own laundromat. ( If I ever win the lottery )

Same thing with mine. The tub leans forward during the wash and rinse, but is centered after the spin cycles. I contacted Speed Queen about this and was assured this was normal. So far the machine is almost 4 years old and haven't had an issue yet.

Malcolm's FL and Dan's TL are outstanding....thanks for the pics and videos....and for allowing us to drool

Everyone all together .... OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH....AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I'll make some more vids next week. I'm going to do a delicate cycle and show a video of the agitation arc. Glad you like them!

We have a SQ AWS76NW (series made prior to the AWN series) and the washtub tilts forward a bit, less than an inch, during wash and rinse cycles. When spinning it returns to dead center (the lid switch is bypassed).

We've been curious about it, glad that SQ said it's normal.

If I could win the lottery I would have a SQ fl'er, SP tl'er, and the double dryer. I like the SQ agitator better than the dual action agitators by Whirlpool/Maytag.

The SQ agitator started it all for me. I think the only 'back and forth' agitator left on the market. I hate those corkscrew things. BORING. Watching my SQ is like being in a time machine. :)

The Dryer Dryer unit is cool, but you have to run another 220 line to get it to work. But with both of those things on, nearly 11,000 watts of dryer going--that's a huge amount of power. If it's a gas line, just T off supply.

It seems like the Speed Queen top loaders are pretty much the answer for those who want vintage style washing, but in a brand new machine. I myself am wanting to hopefully someday get myself a Speed Queen set. You get a solid, one piece agitator, the slower, longer washing strokes that many people seem to miss, and a 710 rpm spin speed WITHOUT any modifications. Granted you can get the same stroke speed and a 750 rpm spin speed out of a vintage Maytag with the 50 HZ pully set up, but from how it looks, the Speed Queen has a larger tub about the same stroke speed and only 40 less rpm spin speed right from the factory. And the versatility you get with many different cycle combinations and infinite variable water level that makes laundry day so much better. It would be nice to see more and more Speed Queen sets in Americas homes.

Surprisingly, Maytag 806 and 712 has a larger tub. Not much, 1" taller and 3/4" wider than Speed Queen tub. The 50 hz pully set regular wash stroke becomes 77 OPM and the fast spin is 757 RPM.

Here's a new pic (sorry for the blurry one earlier in the week) of the Speed Queen crown on the washer. The vintage measuring cup happened to be in the picture as well...along with the dryer rack instructions that I received today. :) A close up of the Q is now my profile pic.

Splish Splash...

Here's a fun photo. No better way to play with my new camera than with some agitator action in stop-motion. :)

210 Degree Agitation Arc

There was some discussion on the agitation arc of Speed Queens...being in the experimental mood the other day, I placed a red and black mark on the agitator with a dry erase marker. It appears to be 180 degree back and forth at first glance, but if you will look closely the agitator is turning around as well as the color of the marks eventually swap position. So, not sure how that 210 is measured. Medium load, hot water, whites, with Borax. Enjoy!

Balance

I just love watching a properly matched water level to load size machine doing it's thing. Hard to say just how to judge that agitation arc with the tub shifting to the left. Wonder if someone should perform the same test with the solid tub machine and the marathon line and compare.

Malcolm

A properly matched load is a thing of pride amoung us washer people. :) It also makes for an entertaining load. I'm glad I've been recording my Speed Queen--sure has cut down on water usage as I don't have to rewash stuff just for entertainment. :) So when laundry day does come around it's like going to a live concert. LOL

Agreement

Nothing takes the edge off a bad work week like a mound of laundry waiting to be done.

Malcolm

Well I can definitely see where the marks overlap each other, but if it's 210 in each direction you'd think the whole thing wouldn't index the way it does. You can obviously see how each stopping point eventually does a complete revolution after a minute or so. Unless it is 210 in each direction, but the CCW tub indexing causes the whole thing to shift including the agitator.
