Hi,
Brand new Speed Queen washer is making this sound during the agitation cycle. Is this something normal? On other videos of these machines I don't hear this sound.

Agitation Noise

Does it make the noise on every load?
If you fill and run the machine without clothing, does the noise still occur?

It doesn't sound all that serious, imo. Could be a side effect of the tub break getting broken in, but sounds like it happens with each agitator stroke aka in both directions and not simply with break slip.

My mom's 2000 GE made a similar sound when brand new.  I called GE to inquire and the rep described the sound accurately and told me it would quiet down.  It did.  You may just have to give it some time.

Speed Queens do have their shortcomings and will never come close to the durability of a Newton-built Maytag, but if you're in the market for an old school washer that fills all the way and offers long stroke agitation, they're the only game in town.

Or another angle

is use it, enjoy it, and rejoice in the fact you have a washer that actually cleans your laundry w/o all the unnecessary BS associated with eco-sanctioned machines.

No charges will be filed at this time.

It males the noise on every load. I will try it without any clothes. I have to say, I haven't missed the musty moldy smell from my new Electrolux front loader AT ALL and love all of the old school sounds of this machine! Had an awful time with the Electrolux (3 huge repairs during its first year!) and the Fisher Paykel that I got to replace it. We had the Fisher Paykel for under an HOUR,! Straight out of the box and the stupid Pump didn't work. Unbelievable, I am happy to have found this machine- just uncertain about this little rhythmic sea gull noise.

That sound is NORMAL!!!

Nothing wrong with your washer, enjoy it. The sound is normal, NORMAL I TELL YA!!!!!
BEN WHERE ARE YOU????
IMPERIAL 70, THERE ARE SPEED QUEEN SUPPORTERS ON THE WAY TO YOUR LAUNDRY ROOM AS WE SPEAK!!! LOL
What has a SpeedQueen washer and dryer ever done to you?

Thanks! I kinda like the sound. Just tried it without clothes and it still makes the sound, so I figure it will eventually go away after more use.

If I'm right your machine is a Speed Queen AWN542S and I own the same machine. I have never heard that noise from my machine and I'm nearly certain that you shouldn't be hearing it either. If I were you I would contact the manufacturer and get a repairman to evaluate it while it's still under warranty.

Good luck

Hi, no your machine should not make that sound. My machine made a rattling sound during agitation when I got it. Contacted speed queen and they sent a service provider to fix it. It was the idler pully and washers. Call speed queen and ask to speak to the technical service manager and try to have it fixed. Good luck.

New SQ TL Washer Squeaking During Agitation

Ignore IT, it will likely go away, you have a THREE YEAR warranty if it is really a problem call them in a few years.

As a Repairman I can tell you it is seldom a good idea to work on a machine that is NOT broken, the machine will not be any better after they leave and there is always a chance that something will get disturbed and cause a problem later.

The squeaking is just the brake pads and it usually goes away almost completely after the machine is used more, but just like car brakes occasional squeaking is not a sign of problems.
