Howdy. Our hunting cabin up in Montana had a major flood that happened sometime during the winter. It's going to get gutted and completely renovated. And there's a good chance that most if not all of the appliances inside will be replaced. If so, I'd like some opinions or advice on what ones to look into. I'm already viewing the LG WashTower line for the stackable set. Bosch for the dishwasher. And Frigidaire for both the stove and fridge. Because that's what my local appliance dealer recommended for me. But always welcome for more than two voices. Over-the-range microwave I don't think matters a whole lot because from my understanding most of them are made by the same company. I have no idea what toaster or coffee maker is the best. The vacuums and air purifier are already covered by me because I already know what ones I should get. Anyways, felt that this was most appropriate forum to put it at since alot of them don't belong in the Deluxe category. Thanks yall!

Personally wouldn't get the WashTower unless height is a concern - getting the units and stacking them separately is more future proof if either fails.
Only have to replace the one unit, not the stack.

If it's just a secondary place to stay and you don't have to do excessive amounts of laundry, maybe looking at one of the new heatpump combos might be interesting.

Bosch DWs are an easy recommendation - especially the ones with CrystalDry.
Best drying results with less energy use and still reasonable cycle times - hard to beat.

Best new appliances for a second home

The LG wash tower would be an excellent replacement for the Maytag Neptune stack, a one piece combo could be good unless you’re in a hurry to get loads done which you often are in a second house where you’re trying to get sheets done up and such when you’re leaving.

Best stove by far would be a GE Frigidaire would be a good second choice. Also a GE refrigerator is better than a Frigidaire by a long shot.

Best dishwasher when considering everything is a whirlpool or kitchen or Maytag product. They’re much larger inside than a Bosch and you can get models that don’t have the stinky filters plus they do have a real dry heater

Would never put a microwave oven over a stove. It’s better just to leave a shelf space for it and then buy the microwave you like, and if you have problems with it, replace it easily much less of a fire hazard and burn hazard than having it over the stove.

Sorry your family is having to go through this remodeling. Looks like it was a nice place to begin with. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult to repair all the water damage.

John.

It's alright

Based on the videos I've seen, it's alot worse than I thought. But it sounds like the insurance will cover for it. It'd be nice if the appliances survived but I wouldn't count on it so that's why I went ahead and created this thread. We hope to have the place done by this late summer cause we already have something planned up there by then.

Definitely a good point of not having a combo when you're in a rush but also a good point of not having to replace the entire set when one machine breaks over the other. I wish the cabin never had a stackable set in the first place but it is what it is. Regardless of what one we'd end up with, I hope to not get the white version because white isn't my favorite color.

The place does have a GE fridge which I'm pretty sure is original to the cabin since 2004 so I'll consider getting another GE as I did liked it. It also has a Frigidaire stove which is probably original to the place as well, I wouldn't mind another Frigidaire but getting a GE this time would match with the fridge more.

I completely forgot about dishwashers with filters inside. If I could get one without a filter inside, that'd be fantastic! My KitchenAid doesn't have one which I really do like with not having to worry about. My grandfather does have a newer Maytag dishwasher at his house and if it doesn't have a filter, I should probably get the same one for his cabin unless it's already discontinued. I know the Frigidaire at the cabin doesn't have a filter. I was going to order a new thermal fuse and leads for it but I may not have to anymore.

I think the kitchen design will remain the same so it's likely going to have another over-the-range microwave installed. Plus I don't think there'll be room enough to have a countertop microwave in the kitchen anyways. It currently has a Whirlpool which replaced the Frigidaire that died back in 2011. Besides that, we haven't had any other problems with over-the-range microwaves. I'll probably just get a GE to match with the stove and fridge unless if we get a deal on another brand. Pretty sure we just want a basic one.

I did fail to mention that the place also has a hand mixer, a griddle, a crock pot, and a roaster. I think the griddle and roaster had survived since both of them were stored upstairs but the carpets were also soaked as well so I'm not sure if they still work.

Update

The renovation is coming along. Everything was taken out including the walls and flooring, it's all just Douglas fir sticks inside. Electrical and plumbing were just redone, I heard they're now currently putting in a new furnace from what I was just told. So that's the good news. The bad news is all the appliances are getting replaced except the vacuum (I had someone send it home to me for service), no surprise there. They just had a delivery of all the new appliances yesterday, I don't know what the replacements are but I did gave the family recommendations from what John suggested so we'll see if that's what they got or not when it's completed.

stackers...

John recommended a Whirlpool 1 pc top-load stacker-set when we finally decided that we needed a dryer for our Vermont lake place. Usually we hang laundry out to dry in the sun there and at home but it's v nice to have the dryer for rainy days or when there's a glut of beach towels! We've had it for 5 years now and it has been excellent: washer has big capacity, real agitator, does a great job, the dryer same, and no problems yet!

Today we just bought my grandfather a new GE GRF600AVSS to replace his old Magic Chef from his house. But according to my uncle cause he took care of the appliances at grandpa's cabin, everything he picked out is LG. When the place is ready by this fall, I'll be showing pictures.

Update

I went up to the cabin today to check out the progress. Saw the new LG fridge and stove in the box, hasn't been installed yet. The old fridge survived and it seems like some of the other appliances did as well. The vacuum definitely survived cause I had it serviced. I don't know about the dishwasher but I think it's getting replaced as well. And we just got a new stackable washer/dryer. My uncle called me a few weeks ago and asked what I recommended cause the Neptune got thrown out. I recommended either a Speed Queen or an LG but suggested SQ because the insurance was paying for whatever. And we got the SF7 in white cause the Neptune was also white.

Oh, I did mentioned we bought the GE for the house. Well we canceled that order and bought the same LG stove for the house instead which makes sense cause my grandfather would already know how to use it for the cabin.
