When I was a child, my grandfather had a 1983 Ford Ranger truck, that he had bought new. It was white with tan interior. It was a basic truck. I don't remember it having a/c in it. I used to ride around in the truck with him. Sometime in the late 90's the truck went away. Then in 2011 my grandfather passed away. I've wanted a little Ranger since then.
Recently I was looking at Facebook Marketplace and found this Ranger in Tucson, AZ. I have family and friends down there, so I asked my dad, who was visiting down there, to go check it out for me. He ended up getting it and my next step was to get it home to Minnesota.
I ended up flying to Tucson on Tuesday (Christmas Eve) and spent Christmas with family. On Friday, after Christmas, I hopped in the little truck and headed north. I stopped in Albuquerque, NM and stayed with some friends. Got up Saturday morning and continued on. Made it to Oklahoma City, OK where I met a friend for lunch and then on to Tulsa, OK where I stayed at my cousin's place. Sunday morning, I got up and continued on home, making it that evening.
The truck is a 1987 Ford Ranger. Has the base engine, a 2.0 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual transmission. It has no options on it whatsoever. Manual brakes, manual steering, manual windows, no a/c, didn't even have a radio from factory. An aftermarket one was installed but they kept the radio delete plate. (or Radio not added plate).
Being that it has the 2.0, it only produces 72 horsepower. I was able to keep the truck at 70, the majority of the way. And I got anywhere from 22 to 25 miles to the gallon. I checked the oil on it, along the way, and it doesn't burn or leak any oil. It handled the trip, with no issues.
I do not plan to drive it in the snow or on salted roads. The thing is really clean underneath and I definitely do not want to have it start rusting.
The first two pictures are of the Marketplace ad. The next three are before I left Arizona. The sixth one is while I was on my journey. The speedometer does show 75, but it was really 70, according to my phone's GPS. The last one was taken at my friend's place in Albuquerque, NM.
