We got delivery today of this Whilpool Fridge today for the apt downstairs. We bought it at New England Appliance for $1000. Talk about nice. 26 cu ft and icemaker in the door of the freezer.

I'm a big fan of the ice bin in the door.  It looks like they've improved the design of it since we bought our KA in 2008, which just has an open bin.  Leave the freezer door open for any length of time and the ice gets stuck together.  It appears Whirlpool has come up with an insulated access cover for it now.  I'm not thrilled with the vertical pads on the ice and water dispenser.  You have to shove the glass against them just right or they stop working.  Maybe they've improved on that too.

I HATE SXS FRIGES!!! They have issues with rust running down due to no true drain in the dispenser tray and the freezer doesn't make anything easy to store or access. My preference is a bottom freezer with inside filtered water and ice maker in the freezer. No loss of space on the doors and easy access to frozen and refrigerated foods. Cold air sinks and a freezer on top or side is going to cost more to operate. But, that's just me. I'm sure there are many SXS folks here that completely disagree with me.

Nice!!!!

Looks great!

Keep the coils clean. You won't believe how fast they get clogged with dust, even in the cleanest environment. I have to use my Rainbow to blow mine out because there is no other way to clean them.

Very nice! Great Price!
Interesting Mark about you stating keeping the coils cleaned!
I did my 6 month cleaning with my Samsung SxS today.
I always rig a regular mesh type filter (the kind you use with window units) on the intake air side. Every six months I replace it. I am always blown away at the amount of dust on the filter. Actually was shocked today! The coils were nice and clean behind it. I don't understand in this day and age of technical advances that they don't have filters on refrigerators! It is so easy to rig. Everyone should do it. It is almost impossible to get to the coils to clean them entirely. Again...the coils behind the filter were perfectly clean.

My in-laws have the same fridge (or theirs is similar to it)...!

I really like my old paddle style dispenser levers; those 'new' pads take a lot of getting used to being as their some electronically-controlled Jetsons-like design (& you can't expect a couple in their 80's to comprehend the futuristic design any better!)...

Yeah, I have the old fore-runner Whirlpool Side-by-Side dubbed 'Conquest', which I like better, if their older design is a more familiar & vintage-like concept I feel more at home with...

The ice does tend to stick together & if that dispenser in the door did get improved in this 'newer' model, then that's probably the only thing I would be missing out, otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with mine, except for a small weld on one of my freezer shelves breaking off! A wonder no other side X sides, other than the Whirlpool-made stable mates didn't take to that in-door design; there really is an advantage in creating/retaining freezer space...

I'm a fan of Side by Sides & don't really see any disadvantage to their design (but as I've heard, they don't keep some foods as fresh & wonder from a few veggies I've had go bad before their time if it's really true) other than the narrow interiors...

In which I miss the wide areas & doors on the top freezer design & miss how 'cozy' some of them looked stocked w/ food & everything seemingly fitting perfectly, even if in-door dispenser models are few, far-between & rob the owner of freezer space...

I have the exact same fridge. only 1 problem in the beginning with it, but it was major. there was a split in one of the water connections underneath inside the near the compressor. every time the ice make would go to fill all the water went on the floor. had to rip out our new kitchen that had never been used. cabinets, wallboard, vapor barrior and insulation plus alot of new hardwood floors. oh what a mess. but whirlpool stood behind their appliance and paid for all the repairs, including a new fridge. new one runs great and no problems. the only adjustment i have made to it was to lower the freezer temp down to -5 degrees. this makes ice cream a more solid form and the ice maker now keeps up with demand. enjoy this very quiet machine.

Very nice fridge, looks nice and roomy with a great price.
I personally am not a SXS person, I prefer a bottom freezer model, as I want a full width refrigerator, seems I can pack more into it, especially when I'm cooking for a party and have several steam table or electric roaster pans to store.
I am probably the only person who DOESNT want an ice maker or water dispenser in my fridge. I use very little ice so 3 ice cube trays are sufficient, and as for water I have nice fresh well water from the faucet

Sam--- I also opt out from water dispensers and ice makers, as they tend to be the things that need servincing most often in refrigerators. I have to have a full-width fridge because of the very wide hotel chafer pans I often use. Having said that, I can see where a side-by-side is convenient in that there isn't a wide-swinging door to deal with. Great for kitchen with tight fridge areas.

The thing with this fridge is that the base cover is screwed in. The tenant was asking about that and I told him that if he needs to clean it out I will help. I also have a nice long fridge coil brush to aid in the cleaning. I also have that lint genie that gets into places with the vacuum.
So far the fridge is very quiet and I was amazed at how quickly it got cold. The fridge it replaced was only 16cu ft so this is a big step up in capacity. I do like this side by side and its very roomie. But that said the tenant wanted a bottom mount freezer fridge and the start point was over $1200. If I had my way i would have gotten an el cheapo $300 fridge but thats me. My thinking is this could have gone two ways...the tenant buy his own so he can deal with it if it craps out...because this one will whine and one wont hear the end of it, or we buy it and get what we think is good value for the money.
The cabinet depth on the fridge minus the doors is a robust 29 inches. Our back door is 30 inches and the door to the apt was 29.25 inches...so needless to say some paint got taken off the doorway. It took 3 guys to bring it in. They did a great job. If it was us bringing the fridge in, well there would have been a murder and divorce so it was best to spend the money for delivery.
