Look to be high-end models, with a somewhat high-end price.  These have been available for a while, probably to combination of price and location.

If I were looking to try out the Maytag franchise as my Daily Drivers, these would be an excellent pair to start with. Would these have been orbitals or helicals?

Could be either. Would need a tub shot or a serial # to tell for certain. These are "12" series machines and were made from July 1984 until June 1990. The switch-over to orbital occurred in July 1989.
