After seven years of nothing but trouble with my former electric mower (I think I broke a mirror), I determined to go looking for a vintage electric. Today it turned up- a 1986 Craftsman electric that is sooooo clean and sooooo well-cared-for I can't believe it. And the price was right. BUT- and there's always a but- Sears has, of course, dropped support for the machine, since it's older. Does anyone know of a reliable source for Sears electric mower parts, aside from Sears? My experience with electric mowers tells me that I will be replacing switches and blades with some regularity. The Sears model number is 663.370211. A pic is below, and does not begin to do this baby justice. P.S.: I know the pic makes the mower look like a gas mower, but it isn't- the motor housing is just styled to look like the one on a gas mower.

Great find

Sandy, do you plan on using this as a daily driver?

Try to find any parts you can now if there are available. When I bought my place to restore I found an early 70's electric mower under the house. A local eletrician kept it going for me by rebuilding parts. It was a great mower I used it for a couple of years until the motor burned up. I replaced it with a neuton.

If you are going to use this little beauty on a regular basis you may have to seek alternative repair solutions. Keep an eye out for other units to use for parts.

Found Soime Info:

Greg and Pete:

I have found that the "663" model number prefix means that the mower was made by MTD, a company that is still in existence, making electric mowers under the Yard Machines brand name.

A check of Websites offering MTD parts shows that the switch and blades are still available, though the price of the switch is quite high ($45).

So, basic service can still be performed, though I wouldn't want to be stuck for lack of one of the machine's plastic parts, which are mercifully few in number.
