Salut!

Youve inspired me enough to realise I really need to brush up on the very little French I know and have invested in a 7 week beginners course.

Ive bought the "teach yourself" french starter kit by Elisabeth Smith which seemed about the best for the money but one problem im not sure about,

In task 1 it says....
That I should not worry about using the appropraite le, la, and les before a word, as il learn it as I go along or if I dont, it wont really matter as no one will bat an eyelid!?????

Now when I was learning french at school im sure we had it drummed into us its exceptionally important to get the right gender onto the appropriate word. (although its an area where im completely in the shade about what I did learn as regards this.)

As opposed to learn it and get it right eventually (or indeed not and not worry about it) I would rather just do it right and not get into bad habits.

Do you have any advice you could give?

Merci beaucoup

Nick

Even though I only speak a little French, I am more fluent in German and Spanish. We always learned the gender as we learned it.

But don't worry, if you get the gender wrong, someone usually will very (most of the time) plitely correct you.

Congratulations for picking up a second language. Most europeans usually speak at least two, if now three.

Whirlcool!

French W/M's

Bonjour Nick

I am a bit of a francophile. I'm a huge fan of Mylene Farmer (french popstar a cross between Kate Bush and Madonna if you can imagine that).

Anyway I have attached a link to one of the main manufacturors I see in France, Vedette. Not quite sure who makes them though, or if they are independent.

Lave-Linge is Washing Machine in french.

Rob

very interesting to see they are part of the FagorBrandt Group. if you look closely at the TOL 1400 model I noticed it has a Servis Rainwave Drum. the biggest crime of the century them drums were!

Nick

Good Website tho! i like how 800 rpm are seen is inferior
and 1200 plus are superior LOL.

OK OK

So, what's up?

Ralf

E allora? La vogliamo finire? :-))

TRANSLATION:
Somone of you I've already know speaks a bit of Italian... that afterall has became ano "official" foreign language in the US either... I assure you that is not an easy language at all! But I believe it's very nice to speak, because it seems someway to the French.

E sicom c'est finì là, a bientot mes chers amis!
Au Revoir!

Diomede

PS: AH, How would I like to learn some Germany too!

S’all right, Nick, mate – don’t worry. :-)

I’m somewhat verbose, and I did worry some time ago that I’d given Mr Wilson a headache, but he assures me that is not the case. :-)

I’m always available for a chat. :-)

Carl

Hey carl will email very soon. Just got up for work later. i only have to learn 10 french words today and it just aint sinkin in. It amazes me that i learn things such as new song words, and english script so easily. Yet this is something else. Its not the actual words its the "putting them into the right order in a sentence". Having fun with pronounciation too lol. Nick
