Hi!

I have an old Kenmore washer that I've had since the 90's. It was my ex's parents or grandparents before that but I'm not sure how long they had it for. Other than some rusting around the lid and having to replace the hoses at the back, I've never had a problem with this machine until recently. The drainage pump has started leaking. I took it off, cleaned it, checked all the hoses but there's a small hole in the side. I put epoxy on it but its leaking thru other spots now. As well since it started leaking, it doesn't spin all the water from the clothes. There is no standing water. But you can wring water from the clothes.

It's been a great machine and I'd rather try to find a pump and repair it than buy a new one. But all the labels with the model number are long gone. There are no numbers in the tub or on the lid. I've looked inside the walls and can't find anything there either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely a GE washer

Post pictures of the water pump that is failing, it may be readily available still.

There’s probably another problem if it’s not spinning things dry could be as simple as a badly worn, loose belt, or totally worn out clutch.

You should be able to get this working again if you’re willing to do a little work on it.

I remember that washer and dryer on the back cover of the Sears Christmas catalouge.
I thought it was so cool looking with the colored cycles for both washer and dryer.
Wasn't expecting that agitator.

GE made Kenmore Washer

Tom is right on - for a short time, for whatever reason, Sears had GE (Camco at the time in Canada) manufacture washers and dryers for them badged as Kenmore. I'm not sure if there was an extended strike or some manufacturing problem at Inglis, they were just diversifying or there was some other reason. I don't think this lasted very long however but you do see these still surface from time to time.

Wow you guys are all so amazing and knowledgeable. So ok, probably a GE. Does that make things easier or harder?

I will get pics of the pump asap. Hurt my knee and this washer is heavy having the cement block as part of the frame.

I'll try to get as good of pics as possible but if need be I can remove it. Its only a few screws. To be honest the leak is worse since taking it apart as its also now leaking where the cinch clamp is at the bottom. Being the original clamp, could it be it lost its ability?

There was a really interesting looking washer inside the pump. Like a really thin steel or heavy aluminum. I've not seen anything like it in an appliance. More like an engine.

I did do some reading, videos before finding this site and saw that it could be belt, clutch. But it seemed a bit too coincidental that it didn't start having an issue with not spinning them dry until the leak started. I found it bc there was all this water at the bottom of the machine. so pulled it out and could see water seeping out of this hole in the side of the pump. Blocking the hole helped at first but then the not spinning them dry still got worse, and even worse after I took the pump out bc its now leaking where the clamp is too.

But as I said, if I can fix it, I'd rather do that bc its a great machine. I hear friends complain all the time about problems with new machines. To have 1 problem in 30 years, that's a good machine!

i think when sears made those ge made kenmore

i think when sears made those ge made kenmore was when they bough the eaton stores back in 1990 so rather than sell under the eaton brand viking they negociated with ge to put there brand on the washer dryers i know back in 1993 almost own a set but went with inglis instead my advice have this washer repair it will last you longer than today modern machines

GE/Hotpoint washers from this era typically had their Data Plate located on the left side of the washer, near the floor, at the front of the side.  If you didn't look there you might check that location.
