I love this washer and i have done my own repairs on it for the last 30 yrs. this one has me stumped. cold water and hot water work fine, inlet valve solenoids are good (tested) and the temp switch is new. I am not a technician, just love this washer. what should i try next? does anyone have a wiring diagram for it? the only one i could find on line shows only 2 solenoids on the inlet valve and my machine has 3.

When you choose warm for wash do you hear any buzzing with no water flow?
If not, more than likey the warm temp solenoid has gone bad on the water valve. You can test the timer / switch operation by switching the warm wire on the hot side. If during wash and rinse you get hot when you choose warm you know your switch and timer are okay.
Water valve solenoids are pretty common. Most varieties from two temp valves of the same age will swap with little issue.
If you do hear buzzing the valve may not be opening all the way. It can be rebuilt with rebuild kits, but it may be easier for you to find an NOS 3 way valve. You may be able to switch in a hot/cold valve, however you would lose your warm temp.

thanks for your reply. yes, there is a buzzing noise. and the timer is a replacement and so is the switch. the solenoids (all three) test fine. Any idea where i might fine the nos 3 way valve? still could use a wiring diagram so i can be sure i've got this put back together correctly.

Though the diagram clearly says it does, I can't fathom why it takes 3 solenoids to make warm. It's either hot only, cold only, or both. ???

Maytag used a three valve water valves on TOL machines up until the early 906 washers. The warm valve provides a regulated warm output, via a thermostat built into the valve, providing approx. 100 degree warm water, rather than relying on mixing both cold and warm with two valves and no regulating thermostat.

That is indeed a TOL feature in an all-mechanical machine. Thanks Ben. Hardly a day goes by here at AW that I don't say "I never knew that".

Various TOL machines used 3 solenoids yielding 5 temps: Hot, Cold, Warm, warm+hot = medium hot, warm + cold =cool.

do any Aussies know if an equivalent 3-way valve was used on any Australian machines? I'd love to add a temp controlled warm fill to my machines. I always disconnect the heater on my machines as it draws too much current for our solar power system, but I like to wash in "warm-to hot" water. As the temp of the solar hot water varies from day to day, a temp controlled valve would be great.
I have never heard of these valves before, I'd love to find a 240 volt equivalent.
