Norge Burpilator

This solid tub can take water out so fast.
I also think it has a very nice porcelin basket with the holes up top.
Makes it much unique.
And it is pretty much a quit spinner.

That's my take on the Norge.
Now could I fix one Nope not yet.
Great machine very Vintage.
If you like them or not.
They truly have there own charecter.

Watching those Norge video clips made me feel like a child again watching my Moms Norge.The sights and sounds.I think the Norge agitator cap was meant to be more functional than attractive.Note how it would be easy to grip with your fingers to remove it.vaguely remember both Dad & Mom removing the cap to get under the agitator for cleaning and maintenance.The Burpulator brought back basement memories!and hers had the shiney metal lint dish.Would love to run into one of these neat machines someday.I don't remember what sort of dial Moms had.Does the Norge in the video clip have the loud slammy brake that sounded like a shotgun going off when it engaged-that sound used to make me jump out of my skin until I knew it was going to brake after spinning.I think it used the brake after the final spin-sort of remember the machine filling for rinse as it coasted down to a stop.And the pumpout of the water when the machine goes to spin!they had some strong motors back then!

Thank you, aldspinboy for the great videos! Love the sound of those Norges! Reminds me of my grandma's '62 Wards Signature machine. And I agree with aldspinboy, Robert's the greatest -- I've had the pleasure of getting the grand tour as well, and it's quite an honor and so much fun to see all these iconic machines.

Wish someone had pics of or actual Norge from 1960. My sweet mother,who just passed 12/19/11,had new tol '60 washer & dryer. Lighted console that stood on 2 chrome 'legs'. I've been a member here since 2007,visit frequently,but the '60 Norge is elusive.

the videos are great, the rinse water is so clear you can see everything--your underwear, hahah--, and the water hitting the massive agitator during the spray rinse gives a wonderful fireworks display of water.

For all Burpolator people: Even the earliest Norge Agi had holes in the bottom; and even though it didn't burp, it sure could spit from the slits in its sides

It was a great experiance and a great machine !

Rex...Maybe Ugly was a little harsh of a word and yes it is a funtional shape
for turning, just the shape is much different from other caps.

Todd.. What a great collection of washers you have loving that Kenmore pair !
I could wash in that room all day.

William.. I'm feeling for your lost it is not easy at all losing a person soul that has been with you forever, and I hope for your healing to be fruitful instead of pain.
I have not seen that model as well good luck maybe one day it will show up.

You know, I was doing a load of laundry in my Wards Signature washer and think that the burpilator filter must be the most effective lint removal system of all the vintage machines. It seem's "purer" because the water isn't drawn thru the tub holes and into a pump and back into a lint filter-- the agitator is right in the linty water with larger holes than the perforated tub holes, so can draw lintier water that if it gets sucked thru the tub...any thoughts on this?

Norge

Granny had what I believe was a late '50's or early '60's Norge. I think it was a post timeline machine. I have only seen one other machine like it and that was at a thrift store around 1970.

This Norge had a small box on the right hand side of the deck that held a rotary timer (not a full width panel), the burpilator nozzle shot straight up like a fountain, the filter pan was aluminum, and the machine featured a 'Super Rinse' rubber inlet nozzle at 12 o'clock. This, of course, was a solid tub machine that had that noisy pump and I don't think it had a clutch--it seems as though the motor started slowly against full load when spinning; I vividly remember all the lights in the basement dimming severely and the motor laboring until tub came up to speed. Wow.

Any information that can be shed about this particular machine would be greatly appreciated.

Hotpoint:

Further to the above threads: in or about 1990, I scored a NOS 1967 Penncrest solid tub washer after a local JC Penny's store was demolished. It turns out that this is a MOL genuine Hotpoint with a spiral agitator and fountain filter. It has been my daily for the last 21 years. Note that I have never had the agitator's filter pump clog and the burpilator filter does an amazing job--seems every bit as effective as the Filter Flo it replaced, not to mention it's a substantially quieter machine.

Super Rinse

Spinout, it was definitely a Norge or Wards/Signature -- my grandma's Wards had the "Super Rinse" spelled out on the 12 o'clock position fill nozzle...but her's had the traditional burpilator agitator.

More to the point.

Just this afternoon, Mr. Akronman dropped into Cincinnati for lunch and picked up my 50th Anniversary Norge Burpalator, pictured above. I was very sad to see it go as I really wanted a Burpalator, but I'd rather have one like my mother's 1981? MOL-ish Wards. I could hardly imagine it going to a nicer home. Mr. Arkonman is a gentleman and I think the Norge should be very happy in his care.

Home safe and sound

IT's home! The Norge is waiting in the garage overnight for my boyfriend to help me in the morning with getting it down those basement steps, always a hassle. It looks like a great machine, pretty darn well-cared for, robust.

Dave and I had a fun time, I got my first ever taste of delicious and famous Cincinnatti Chili, I got a tour of his basement too. He's a Maytag dryer expert, and rapidly turning in to a Kenmore washer expert, lots of great vintage machines working, some in repair/restoration, pieces parts all around for a bunch of projects. Dave and his roommate are also restoring their late 1800's home, it already looks nearly marvelous and his future work will shine. IT's a BIG house, 20 years older than mine.

 

I'll start a new thread in a few days, once I've started checking out this machine's needs, and I'll post pics for sure.

 

Again--thanks to Dave Volvoguy for a good day, a neighborly visit from one corner of Ohio to the other! He's very easy to talk to, full of information, and a kind soul.

 

My only complaint---------why does my new washer have to wait overnight in my garage!!!! I want that Burpilator action NOW.

 

Did Norge use the word BURPILATOR, or is that strictly an AW.org phrase?

Mark, looks like a great time was had by all.....wonderful to meet members and have some fun.....

don't tell me about "temptation" of getting a machine, and to get it into the house, hooked up and running....most times I strip down naked just to have a quick load....a seriously learned to close the shades, been there, done that!

I would be awake all night if I had to wait until morning.......wake up the BF and move it now!(just advance the clock to 5AM, he'll never know!)
