I'm home, but I'm sick. I have a fairly extensive case of Chicken Pox. FortyfreakingFive and I have Chicken Pox.

I am MISERABLE. Worse, I have the wrong sort of throat drops...these wash away, they don't last like Cloraseptic or Cepacol. They'll do, for now.

It's under my moustache, my beard, my hair-such as it is...

I don't feel like talking-talking, but email is welcome. Don't expect very legthy replies now, though.

The doctor at ER last night (who did not look like Noah Wyle or George Clooney, unfortunately,) said 7 to 10 more days of this stuff.

I've got Benadryl capsules, Caladryl Clear lotion, and since I'm over 25, I am allowed to take Aspirin instead of Tylenol. Tylenol does not work at all for me.

I'm in bed a lot.

Hope you feel better soon, and remember nice long oatmeal baths will do wonders to clam the itching and allow you some peace.

Had mine when still in lower school. One child in the area had chickenpox, so all the mothers in the area sent their children to a pre-planned birthday party for his older sister. In short order every child in the area came down with the chickenpox. Cruel as it may seem, mothers for ages had "chickenpox parties" on the theory it was better to have all the children in one household have them at once and be done with it.

I feel your pain, I have back problems at the moment, I put my keyboard and mouse of the computer on the ironing board so I can at least type now and then a little. I hope you are getting better soon. The oatmeal baths sound horrible, but who knows they work. Launderess always has tips that work.

Lawrence, I offer my condolences, BUT HON, why in the name of all that is pleasant, soft and pastel did you not get the vaccination if you still had not had CP? That is the same virus that causes you know what in us older folk and once it is in the body, it never goes away. OY! I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I remember how awful it was when I was 6 and my brother was 4. All we had was Calamine Lotion. We were so lucky, with genetics and stuff. Our doctor said that the only thing that he could compare with the severity of our cases was smallpox. They have discovered that very warm water will short-circuit the itch message in the skin, now that we have all sorts of medications that will relieve it also. You need to stay warm, so thank heaven that this did not happen during the heating season. At least you can knock your self out with the Benedryl. I say that because one of the worst things I remember about this and the measles was waking up during the night and not being able to go back to sleep. The bed was too warm, but I was not allowed to remove any of the blankets because if I got cool, the pox might go back in according to some old wives' tale. Best wishes.
 
Maytag...man I sure hate to hear that you have the pox..I had them several years ago and for an adult, as you can now attest, it is very dangerous. At the time I had it (late 90's) they were giving Zovorax (sp?) an antiviral that would reduce the severity, symptoms and longevity of the virus..did he give you anything?....really hope you are better soon..Mike
 
Sorry to hear that Lawrence, I had CP when I was about 8, it wasn't fun then, so I can only imagine what its like as an adult. Get well soon!
 
Yikes! CP isn't fun...had it when I was 7 in 1st grade and missed school for about a week! I'm wondering the same thing as Tom...if you haven't had it why didn't you get the vaccine?

I'm sending a bunch of cyber-scratches as well...hope you get well soon!

Launderess is right, oatmeal baths help. And I do remember taking my girls around kids who had CP when they were little so they would get it while they were young. First daughter got them at 9 months...so that was good...too young to know to scratch.

Aveeno sells a Natural Colloidal Oatmeal bath treatment that seems to work to relieve some of the itching. Try to get someone to go to the local drug store and get you a box. (or 2...but don't use the leftovers to make Oatmeal Cookies, lmao) The bath is really messy, but it does help to dry out the "pox". Stay out of the sun too.

And try not to scratch, as hard as it is...those things leave nasty deep scars at times.

I agree ...

I had the chicken pox when I was in the first grade. I have other skin issues (psoriasis) and Oatmeal baths are very soothing and are a great way to relieve the itch. Aveeno makes an oatmeal bath soak and cheaper store brands are avaiable. You can usually find them in the general area of the lotions, etc. in just about any chain type drug store.
