Just joined the ranks and bought a 1970's Harvest Gold Maytag set yesterday. A606 Washer and DE606 Dryer. Both in very good condition. I bought them from a new homebuyer who said the set was left at the house which only had one owner. They replaced them with the Sedona Orange Kenmore HE4's.

Out with the Maytag LAT5000AAW and in with this set. Not sure but I think I have moved from the Deluxe forum (not sure of the age of my previous maytag - late 80's?) to the Imperial forum. As I said the set is in good shape the cabinets show some wear, detergent satining and a few minor chips but no rust. Now all I have to do is get some electricity to the dryer.

I do have a few things that I could use some help with:

1. The lid switch is not working properly, not that I mind as I can watch every portion of the cycle with the lid open. I am concerned though with the off balance switch as well as question if this is why the red indicator light does not shut off unless the cycle knob is pushed in?

2. The lint filter on top of rarely being cleaned is damaged at the bottom. Where is the best place to get a replacement?

3. The writing on the cycle selector is worn. Again where would the best place to get a replacement?

Sorry I don't have a digital camera but will try to borrow one and get pictures of the set as well as the everyday SQ.

Congrats! Seems that Maytags are a frequent starting point for collections.

You can test the off-balance switch mechanism, IIRC by grabbing the agitator and pushing it back and pulling it forward. It should cause the timer knob to move in (to be *OFF*)

Not necessarily. My A206, which is the typical mechanism far as I know, the OOB works by tripping the lid switch to off, not by bumping out the timer.

Re: Reset:

Is done by lifting the Lid and Re-Distributing the Load, closing the Lid and the Spin Cycle should resume.

Answer for JimmyB, yes the Indicator Light stays on, until you push the Timer Knob in to an Off/Cycle Selecting position.

Congrats JimmyB on your new "Toy's" and for saving another great Maytag Washer and Dryer Set. Have fun with them and enjoy their operation and performance.

Have fun with your new 'Tags! You've tested the OOB shut-off by pulling the tub forward? You may be able to adjust & clean the OOB spring and lever by unplugging the machine, lifting the top and inspecting it. I would highly recommend a copy of the Maytag Washer (and dryer) Repair-Master book, easy to understand and very helpful in getting familiar with your machine(s).

It's easy to adjust a Maytag lid switch.UNPLUG the washer,take the 2 screws off the cover on the console,and you will see the lid switch under the timer.With a long 1/4' nut driver,or socket,loosen the 2 screws,and the switch will move in or out,whichever way you need it.Lift the lid up and down,you should hear a click from the switch when it makes contact inside.Adjust as necessary.

Hi Jimmy B. Congratulations on your Maytag set. It is a great way to begin your collection and I believe that soon those machines will be more difficult to get.
