Well, Dove has become the "Tide" of personal care soaps. There are at least seven versions of Dove in bar form, not including the Dove Men collection and the liquid body washes. Then we get into the Dove hair care and deodorant line. So Unilever has flooded the market with Dove products and one can see why Ivory was overshadowed. I recall in the late 80's, Ivory tried branching out with liquid hand wash and shampoo. Haven't seen those in years and a few years ago, they tried introducing a liquid detergent with the Ivory name and vintage Ivory logo- not to be confused with Ivory Snow. That seemed to only be available at WalMart around these parts. Don't think it lasted long, though. As far as Ivory Snow goes, somewhere along the way it changed from a soap to a detergent and a liquid version was introduced. Then, it gradually went away. No small wonder. It was usually more expensive than other detergents for smaller quantities. Also, according to Consumer Reports, never was a great performer in the cleaning department. Of course when it was still a soap, you had the traditional problems of using soap in hard water, etc,,, I've never used Dreft, but I don't recall that it historically was highly rated for cleaning performance either, even with it's "enriched Borax" formula.... I remember my mother mentioning that she tried Ivory Snow when my sister and I were infants/toddlers and was not happy with the results so it was back to Blue Cheer and rinsing twice.
