I haven't used Ivory soap in decades, although I loved the smell, it irritated the foreskin, so I stopped using it. Generally, I have been using shower gels for many years now, with the occasional lavender bar soap from Trader Joes and Maja bar soap from Spain. My go to gel is Lactovit (Spain) and sometimes FA if it manufactured in Germany. The American version doesn't smell the same.

I am saddened that they just had to ruin Ivory soap. Greedy corporations will be the end of us.

Well, Dove has become the "Tide" of personal care soaps. There are at least seven versions of Dove in bar form, not including the Dove Men collection and the liquid body washes. Then we get into the Dove hair care and deodorant line. So Unilever has flooded the market with Dove products and one can see why Ivory was overshadowed. I recall in the late 80's, Ivory tried branching out with liquid hand wash and shampoo. Haven't seen those in years and a few years ago, they tried introducing a liquid detergent with the Ivory name and vintage Ivory logo- not to be confused with Ivory Snow. That seemed to only be available at WalMart around these parts. Don't think it lasted long, though. As far as Ivory Snow goes, somewhere along the way it changed from a soap to a detergent and a liquid version was introduced. Then, it gradually went away. No small wonder. It was usually more expensive than other detergents for smaller quantities. Also, according to Consumer Reports, never was a great performer in the cleaning department. Of course when it was still a soap, you had the traditional problems of using soap in hard water, etc,,, I've never used Dreft, but I don't recall that it historically was highly rated for cleaning performance either, even with it's "enriched Borax" formula.... I remember my mother mentioning that she tried Ivory Snow when my sister and I were infants/toddlers and was not happy with the results so it was back to Blue Cheer and rinsing twice.

p&g

This is why I have a love/hate relationship with p&g products. I love their body sprays and body washes, particularly in the Fiji and Bearglove scents, but I hate it when they change their laundry and dishwashing products and I refuse to buy any of them. What they just did is plain stupid! Never again!
What the heck were they thinking? Do they think we're stupid?

Eddie, our local dollar trees still carry green Palmolive soap. I haven't tried it, maybe I should.
I hate body washes so I still use bar soap in the shower. In winter I have to use something like unscented Dove or caress or occasionally I'll order some kappus melkfett soap from Germany as these don't dry me out as badly. In summer I use safeguard or dial maybe occasionally zest.
I agree about ivory being a drying soap. I could use it in summer if I want to. Years ago when liquid pump ivory first came on the market my mother kept it in our bathrooms. I will say, when I was rebuilding my 1980 diesel VW rabbit, ivory would get my hands totally clean!

Greg,
Thanks for the tip about Palmolive bar soap being sold at your local Dollar Tree, I’ll have to check the Dollar Tree in town and see it they carry it. I don’t like body washes either, but David does. To each his own. I’m lucky that my skin isn’t overly dry and Zest is my go to shower soap.

Eddie
